Yes, I believe many of the purposely give out information that they are NOT certain of. I believe most of them know that they haven't done any reading or research on the animals they're talking about, and that the information they're giving out hasn't been verified in any way, and may not be true.

I did not want this thread to start any kind of arguments wow but I think Eric you wanted it to turn into a full on debate about a person that does not know her job. For my knowledge I wanted to know if there was any truth to what the pet girl said as I have never heard of that and I got the answer I thought which is no Eco does not give mites. Eric it is one thing that she may not know but this girl acted like a expert and knew everything and I was crazy for using paper towels for substrate and other things as well there is more between the conversation that I with her. Like others have said no matter what you get paid know and do your job to the best.

I have to say I agree with everyone LOL
BUT most of the problems start with johnQpublic that gets into "hobby/ect" without knowing what they are getting into. Everyone bashes the employee for not studying BUT with this thing we are on called the web, ANYONE can research whatever it is they need.
I also agree that MOST ALL of todays generation not only has no work ethic (to my standards) but also no common sense!!
My work ethic consists of knowing EVERYTHING your pea brain can retain that deals with your employment at the current time. Then again I also view it as every thing I can learn on the "companies dime" is something that on one can ever take away from me.

I am a strange one. I Love working with the public, and the meaner and madder they are, the better I saw them as a challenge to either educate, or to make look a fool and in turn make them see the foolishness in what they were saying, and then having them thanking for spending the time with them I do not care how upset they get, know my job, and know that figuring out what is really wrong can be the beginning of a better life for their pet.

I like dealing with difficult customers too! I work a customer service clerk. That is my job to make sure that the customer leaves happy. If they don't I didn't do my job right. I am extrememly happy with my job. And I work really hard for it. I'm one of the younger crowd too . I don't spend hours off my job to learn about it. My job isn't a life or death situation. But if I can make a difference in the manner of how I service my customers. I will do what I have to make them happy. It's just part of them job IMO.

Neither Eco nor aspen are safe from or susceptible to mites per se. Just need to make sure the source is clean and not infested.

I do recall some folks having problems with Eco Earth, however--it traps a lot of moisture, and folks were having snakes with skin infections due to being on it. So, I'd advise caution with it, based on that.

No beddings transmit snake mites. They ONLY come from other snakes and reptiles. They do, however, wander absolutely everywhere, so if there's an infected animal on the premises, anything you bring home from there might have hitchhikers. On the outside, though--not inside the sealed bag.

You may have heard wood mites mentioned occasionally. Mites are a HUGE group of animals, and there are zillions of specialized mites out there, which can be found in almost anything. (Your own bed is loaded with microscopic dust mites, and your skin is home to some interesting varieties as well). Wood mites don't harm reptiles in any way. The only mites that are of concern are those that chew on the animals or feed on their blood, and those are usually fairly specialized.

You may find wood mites in some beddings, but unless something very peculiar has happened, you won't find snake mites in there.

The issue was solved after Lgray's first post....... Dont know why you guys still fall into his trap and feel the need to put him in his place, just leave it to the mods.

To the OP, I suggest cypress mulch. Its usually not too wet or dry, gives my tanks the perfect humidity.
