Vegans don't use anything made from animals or animal by products. Meaning most candies and foods are out. Vegetarians are less strict about what they eat.

That's awesome you're choosing to eat that way. Personally, I couldn't do it since my muscles need all the protein they can get, and I LOVE chicken! I tried going vegetarian, but didn't last too long. Maybe a week at the most.

There's a guy on youtube who recently did the raw foods diet. He lost 18 lbs in 20 days I think. His channel is Shayloss. He's got other channels too, but that's his main diet channel. He recently fell off the wagon due to a variety of things, but the videos he made were pretty cool. It almost made me want to go with the raw food diet.

Re: So I'm going to try this....

Of course people lose weight when they eat only raw vegetables...they're eating few calories, and their body has to work double-time to digest that raw food.

Vegetarianism is not remotely the same as veganism. Vegetarians eat dairy products, and also may eat eggs. Also, vegans are perfectly welcome to wear leather--you're confusing a dietary choice with the animal rights movement.

I wouldn't bother to try to convince someone not to do this--I'm only saying, when you stop being healthy on it, don't go into denial the way most vegans do. Acknowledge it, and correct your diet. If that never happens, then I'm wrong--but if I'm not wrong, it eventually will.

Here is my question, as related to snakes.

If humans have evolved over time to live off of the nutrients of both plants and animals, and you cut one out and could still live healthily...

I wonder if you could do the same thing for snakes. Tofodents? lol. I don't know. I am just curious. I mean, humans are nothing more than just a complex animal. If we could forgo essential nutrients provided by eating meat, could another species do it as well? I assume supplements would have to be provided (do vegan's take supplements to provide the nutrients that eating meat would provide?). Just curious, that's all. Not saying I would do it.

Also, what is the difference between a vegan and a vegetarian? I was under the impression they were the same thing but I guess not?
    Tofudents? LOL that's funny!
that's a great idea. snakes are very primitive creatures. since they're reptiles, their basic composition and attitude hasn't changed for thousands of years. they're all about food presentattion: smell, temperature (sight need not apply because if your hand smells like a mouse, they'll tag ya like the loveable little predators that they are)
if someone could come up with a product that emulates the size and feel of a rodent, but that also contains the essential caloric intake, vitamins and minerals a snake needs, and make it smell like a mouse, lol, that person would be RICH in no time.
think about it, people in general don't keep snakes because no one really wants to see a cute little mouse get strangled to death and then disappear down a pink throat..
with this kind of product, a lot more people would be willing to get a snake.

maybe i'm rambling on here...yea probably...(i do that a lot...)

No, vegans do not use ANY ANIMAL PRODUCTS. This includes wool, leather, etc. You can have a vegan diet but to BE A VEGAN you don't use ANY animal products whatsoever. You seem to be confusing a vegan based diet with the actual definition of a vegan. (Kind of like a person could eat a vegetarian meal but not be a vegetarian. A vegetarian ONLY eats vegetarian meals).

Look, I'm really tired of all this back and forth about which is healthy and which is unhealthy. And no, vegans do not lose weight because their body is "having to work double time to digest plant matter". They tend to lose weight because their bodies are no longer having to deal with as many toxins (large amounts of sugar, caffeine, high amounts of fat and cholesterol, hormones and antibiotics in meat, etc) and most of the calories in a vegan diet come from nutrient dense foods rather than empty calories.

18lbs in 20 days is not necessarily unhealthy if you are so overweight, your health is at risk. Look at The Biggest Loser. They lose weight like crazy.

Well today is Day 2 for me. The scale reads 209lbs. I had a great lunch of a salad, apple, strawberries, and a glass of orange juice. Since I had a lot of fruit for lunch, I'm focusing on veggies for dinner. Might even stop by and get some vegan fried rice on my way down town tonight.
    Under Construction.....

Take a look at the guy. Most of the weight he lost was most likely water weight. He's weighs in the range of 280s.

Also: Another thing to keep in mind while you read this thread... Everyone seems to think that their diet is always a little bit better than everyone else's. Just like Shay said in one of his Shayloss videos... The minute he starts talking about losing weight, EVERYONE becomes an expert in that area.

Re: So I'm going to try this....

Vegetarian/meat, tanks/tubs, solitary/co-habitation. It doesn't matter. People are always going to have different opinions, thoughts, and ideas and everyone will believe they are right. What it all comes down to is each person has to make the choices and decisions that work for them.
I have absolutely no clue what the difference between vegetarian and vegan is, other than one ends with "tarian" and one doesn't. And if both of them involve cooking, I have no interest in them. I used to be a fast food coinesseur, but when I saw that movie "Super Size Me" I pretty much swore off burgers and fries. And since I hate cooking, and don't have much time for it anyway. I pretty much live on coffee, protein shakes, and bags of microwavable steamed veggies, and yes, I still take my Flintstones vitamin every day, just like I have for the last 35 years or so. It works for me, so I go with it. Besides, I only spend maybe 25-30 minutes a day preparing my meals. That means the less time I spend shoving groceries down my pie-hole each day means more time I can spend on BP.net reading through the daily "What Should I Get", "Baby BP In A 100 gal Tank", and "Help" threads. Oh, and posting in this one. ...End Rant...

JB, Good Luck with your decision...

    One final thought...
