Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
I sent out a Retic last week using Reptster... Everything went Smooth and my customer received his package right on time.
Anyone that will be shipping reptiles needs to get an a account on reptster.com. They offer free styro lined boxes and a nice discount on the shipping rates through FedEx.
Just wanted to thank the Guys at reptster.com for everything they are doing for the Reptile Community!!!

Re: Shipped my First Repster Box!!!
I think its reptster.com just so no one gets confused.
The girls are looking great Jon, little piggies!
-
Re: Shipped my First Repster Box!!!
Jon, did you have it picked up - or did you drop off at a Fedex facility or Kinko's?
-
Re: Shipped my First Repster Box!!!
Thanks...I waited too long to edit it. Maybe a mod can change it.
Glad to hear they are doing good.

Re: Shipped my First Repster Box!!!
I talked to David at the Reptile Super Show, and he gave me some tips on some new stuff they are going to do.
They are going to have a bid war between fed ex and ups. Ups contacted him and said even though we dont allow shipment of live snakes, WE WILL THROUGH YOU.
So soon, you will be able to go to reptster.com put your zip code that your shipping to in, and choose the cheaper of the shipment methods. Kinda like lending tree.
I thought that it was a pretty cool deal, especially since UPS is getting "jealous" of fed ex.
just a lilttle info for ya!

I always drop off at my local FeEx hub around 6:30...My pick up time through FedEx is 1:00, which is too early IMO.
My local Kinko's will not except Reptiles.

It is true, you just have to watch a video made by them.

Re: Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
Glad to hear everything went OK. I'm going to try shipping through them this year. Will be nice to save some $$ on shipping boxes. I think its great that the shipping companies are FINALLY starting to take us herpers seriously, that we're a solid chunk of business, and not just crazies who want to ship reptiles.
-
Re: Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
I shipped out a snake the first week it was hooked up....everything went super smooth.

Has this been AUTHORIZED? In WRITING?
We all know that if this is not autorized in writing it can't be for real so what's the deal Pattimus? You just blowing smoke up our skirts or do you have this on paper? Let's see it dude.....because if you don't have it on paper then it can't really be approved and if it's not really approved then it's against federal law, or should be, and if it's against federal law, or should be, then if you use it you could get all of us in trouble I'm going to call and email the tops of UPS and find out if this latest little story about them letting everyone but me, I mean letting everyone ship snakes, simply cannot be true.
You just see if I don't.....

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?
I think what Pat meant was that UPS would authorize shipping of reptiles through Repster, not any one individual.

I don't think Pat is making it up..
Heres a quote from one of their mods - ssscales

It's a joke referring to another thread.
Pattimust got it. Too bad you didn't. It was one of my better ones.
Next time hopefully. I really can be a funny guy.
Really.
No, I can.
Honest.

Re: Shipped my First Repster Box!!!
Glad to hear everything is fine and dandy....it will be interesting to see how the service performs in the long run.
...but one can only wonder how things will be handled when something goes wrong with shipping process.
For example, someone ships to the wrong address and needs to have the package rerouted immediately. Can they contact Fedex and deal with the issue themselves although all shipping is done on Repsters account? Or does Repster staff someone to deal with these sorts of situations immediately?
Personally, I will not use repster. I think 'services' like this will be bad for the community in the long run. If I use Fedex, my customers will pay more than if I use Reptster to ship Fedex. How can you compete? I do not like being put into that corner by Fedex at all....just so Reptster can make a percentage of the shipping fee (which means you are actually paying for your own box....they just use of bit of the percentage they make off of you shipping to provide the box).
I wonder how it is going to affect those of use with individual Fedex approved shipping accounts in the long run.
I also wonder when someone violates laws (and people will) who will be held accountable. The animals were shipped through a company that is providing the service.....the company and the person using the service will most likely have to deal with some consequences when state or federal laws are broken.
-
Re: Shipped my First Repster Box!!!
I used Reptster's services for the 1st time this week and couldn't be happier - No problems what so ever - Easy as Pie...

I'm curious how this can be bad for the community? Your verified - You get a free box and 20% off the shipping price - How is that bad? LOL...If Reptster makes a little coin off me by providing this service to the community and I save on average $18 a shipment - I'm more than fine with it...I would willing to bet that FedEx would handle a problem with Reptster faster than an individual's problem...

I agree BT, if it saves that much money, and they make a little off it, does it really hurt that bad. The people that you buy the boxes off of (that reptster gives you), they dont charge what they pay, so they make some money there too! Its all relevant.

Yea I just got done shipping with Reptster.com and I couldn't be happier.
For once Fedex and UPS are willing to work with the reptile community, when in the pass both companies were considering stopping all snake shipments. Now thanks to David they're willing to work with us. Great for the industry imo and I can't see how anyone could say otherwise.

Repster is has the legal waiver with Fedex....you and your customer are just using their service and are not 'verified' in anything. I am one to think that certain people should be 'qualified' to ship reptiles. Reptster requires no qualifications.
The legal aspect. Someone ships a kingsnake into Georgia....hognoses into Maryland....something venomous....doesn't label the box properly and violates the Lacy Act....Who is responsible when the law comes a callin'?
From a business standpoint.....Your customer saves $18 a shipment for letting Repster be the middleman for Fedex. I use Fedex directly and charge the customer the $18 extra shipping price. Your prices will alway be cheaper than mine unless I reduce the value of my animals to absorb the $18 or use Repster. That is forcing me in a corner and I do not like it.
When people where undercutting on actual animal prices it was a big no-no....but when they undercut on shipping prices it is ok?

Will FedEx deal with your problems when you call them or will you have to call Repster and have them call Fedex to deal with the problem? Usually Fedex generally only allows authorized users on the Fedex account to deal with shipment issues so you probably have to trust Repster to deal with the situation immediately. Not saying they won't....I just wonder how thing will go when something goes wrong.
Personally, I can get on the phone with my account rep for Fedex and have any issues taken care of in a matter of minutes. Fedex has always provide great service for me....but now it seems I have to use a middleman in order to compete on pricing.

Personally - I don't care who you use to ship...The way I understand it is - You are verified by watching the shipping video - You are using Reptster's account number - Which means you are verified to ship thru Reptster using the shipping techniques you watched in the video...Who's responsible if the law comes a calling - I would say Reptster is...I don't think $18 will make or break a sale - The animal you produced will make the sale...Sounds to me like you should just call David and ask all these question instead of making assumptions...Who said you had to use Reptster or their account? Use whoever you want -

I never asked you to care. Why should you? I can't save you $18.
Unlike you, I care about how others ship reptiles. If something goes wrong with someone elses shipment, it will have an effect on me shipping reptiles. Why do you think there are policies for shipping reptiles in the first place? It wasn't because every shipment went well and no bad press occured.
The way I understand it is - Ya'll just shipped your FIRST package with Reptster and are preaching like it is the savior of reptile shipping - I call that jumping the gun a bit.
If you think watching that video about shipping techniques gives a person the ability to handle shipping snakes properly you are mistaken....or I missed the section discussing how to deal with shipping errors and how to properly heat/cool a shipping box. Or the section discussing what you can and can't ship legally and to where...
$18 won't break a sale on a $1000 animal, but it can on a $50 animal. You think $18 won't break the deal on a cornsnake when another of equal quality is $18 cheaper?
I am asking questions and giving opinions...no assumptions. I like to ask questions instead of jumping on the promotional bandwagon like everyone else.
No one is forcing me to use Reptster.....yet. Just wondering how long until it is the only way to get 'verified' with Fedex.....sounds like UPS is already considering changing their policies to cash in.

LOL...Just what I want to do on a Saturday night - Have a pissing contest with none other than little ol Daniel on BP.net...LOL...Who said I don't care how people ship reptiles? I never said that - You did...You said it's bad for the communtiy - I disagreed...Your damn right I'll promote it - IMO - It's a great resource and service for the community...Don't like me promoting it - Don't listening to my show or don't read my replies...Why not ask your questions to the man - David Young himself instead of on a forum? If $18 kills your Corn snake sell that's not my problem - It's yours...That's the species YOU decided to work with...UPS "cashing in" on it - Why wouldn't they - Their a business just like FedEx...Believe it or not - Business like to make money - even a profit...Nobody said we live in little ol Daniel's perfect little world but what Reptster is offering is a whole lot better than what was offered - If you can't see that then your either blind or just plain ol stupid...Almost forgot - No one can "force" you to done anything...Use whomever you like...If your already verified through FedEx why worry?

Re: Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
Wow. This thread seems to be getting a bit heated for no good reason that I see.
There is a new method for shipping reptiles that might open up a lot of shipping possibilities and save some people some money. That sounds like a good thing.
Daniel brings up a lot of questions and concerns about what might go wrong. Bringing them up is definitely is a good thing. And while, yes, he should ask those questions of reptster IF he is thinking about using reptster himself, I don't think that really was his point. I think he was trying to get people to think about both sides of the issue.
I understand most of the concerns. Who knows if they'll turn out to be real problems, but they should be thought about. While reptster looks like it has the potential to be great for the herp community, it also sounds like it has the potential to be disastrous. I don't know all the details of what was required to get Fedex certified, but if all you have to do to use reptster is "watch" a video... how many people are going to just say they watched it but didn't? Or didn't pay close attention? If stuff gets out to the press about lots of dead snakes and illegally shipped snakes and such things, yeah, I can see it getting bad for the herp community.
I don't quite get the concern about who is making money off of it, because business will be business and people will try to cash in. There may be sales lost because someone doesn't use reptster and can't compete with the shipping prices. There may also be sales gained if shipping via reptster becomes known as being of questionable quality since you can't know who actually knows how to ship snakes and who just said they watched the video but didn't, so some buyers may seek out those who are individually certified.
There are definitely 2 sides to this, and only time will tell which one will turn out to be the reality. Most likely, just like everything else in life, it will turn out to be something between the 2 extremes.

I understand what your Casey but you have to underdstand little ol Daniel...He loves to stir the pot...I have asked him "Why not ask the man his questions"...Why ask people on a forum that don't have the answers...? How many people out there don't give a rat's ass about shipping and lie about what's in the box and just do what they do? There will always be those types of people and nothing me, you or Daniel do or say will change them...Nothing in this world is perfect - There is no perfect system for anything...IMO - What Reptster offers is a very nice service to the herp community...Sure you can sit here all night and poke holes in it but what out there can't you find fault in? For the responsible reptile shipper - It's a good thing...Again - IMO - A buyer isn't going to care that you ship through Reptster...Their going to trust you - You as a responsible, ethical and caring keeper/breeder of whatever it is your selling...But in reality it boils down to this - Don't like it - Don't use it...
-
Re: Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
What I don't understand is you condemning it based on what-if factors. Whether you get certified by shipping an empty box to FedEx or you watch a how to video by a guy that has literally shipped thousands of snakes, what-ifs will always be there.
Davids cell number is on the top of the page for a reason.;)
If you don't like it, don't use it nobodies cares either way.
-
Re: Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
I am a verified fedex shipper, and i get a slightly better discount than what repster offers. however, i do not get free boxes...so that was the incentive for me to sign up and start using repster.
And to top it off, i got my FREE boxes in about 3-4 days.
I am not sure why anyone would complain about this service? sure something will go wrong, but why have the glass is half empty attitude and just be thankful that the reptile industry is being taken as a serious customer.
This is a big step in being recognized as something serious versus something trivial.

There you are...but see what happens when lil' ol' me gives an opinion to try to make people think a bit :) Like I said, Time will tell...and we will see. I hope it is great for the reptile community in the long run. I don't know anyone who would wish for something bad to happen.

Don't get mistaken. I am not condemning Reptster. I just asked a few questions, gave a few opinions, and wondered about how the service will work in the long run....The only thing I was trying to condemn is using the service without asking important questions.
I hope Repster does great things for the community. This community only needs good things.

No it's not funny.
BT either keep to a reasonable debate or let it go. This thread is not going to go to the level where words like "douche" are used towards any member with an opposing position. Whatever personal opinion you have of each other is just that....personal, so I'd suggest you take it out of the public view and out of this thread.

Re: Shipped my First Reptster Box!!!
Sorry it took so long for me to respond to this post. Someone just emailed me the link. I am not sure if I should reply or not, judging by the fact that someone would just post on a forum with such negativity and assumptions and never approach me knowing how accessible I am, is a little off to me. But hey, no hard feelings.
First profitability on this is non existent. Our first week we lost almost a thousand bucks, week two and three almost cost us 3k alone. This program was not designed to create large profits. It was designed to help the community. When I approached FedEx with it a year ago all I asked was that they give free boxes to everyone based on the USPS/Ebay theory. They said no and it took a long time to work out how we can do it. It eats up about four hours a day in accounting and another two in packing boxes. If you believe there is a lot of profit in this give it a try, or come work with us for a few days you will change your mind. Within the next few weeks we will have the formulas down to where we should make a dollar a box which is going to be given right back to the community through ReptAid which all the members can vote on where it goes. Remember its not just giving away a box we also have to pay to ship them and everything involved. Oh wait then there is a twenty percent discount.
As far as customer service of the package. YOU ARE SHIPPING WITH FEDEX NOT REPTSTER. I am more than happy to work on anything you need help with. The return address is yours, the shipper is you, we are called a third party shipper. You are responsible for what and how you ship. If you do something illegal it is on you. Saying Reptster Inc is responsible is like saying FedEx is responsible for what and how you ship. We give the means its up to you to obey the law. To let you know how much it is a FedEx package when I call FedEx gives me the runaround because I am not the shipper. I had to elevate calls to get FedEx to talk to me on packages people shipped. Now I am assigned a special rep and I can be more effective if you need it. But you can call 1800-go-fedex and give your tracking number, it is your package.
As far as certification and verification. Anybody can pack a box once and send it in. FedEx felt that the video was effective enough to allow the community to ship....
Daniel, I would love to have you on the site. I am sorry you feel that this is some sort of bandwagon. We are attempting to help the community save a few bucks and people like it. No bandwagon here. Call me sometime and discuss your concerns 727-686-5456. I am open 24/7 ask anyone who has called. But besides all that...Welcome.
Thanks to BP.net for giving us this space. Thanks for all the support from the community. We are looking forward to earning your business.

David great reply and thanks for the awesome service.
While the above is true, there is something else that is also true.
You guys fight like girls. Not the cool kind of girlfight though, you know, where there's oil or jello or some sort of viscous fluid involved. Far from it.
You're more like 4 year olds in a slapfest.
It was entertaining though.

David, thanks for this post and for clarifying things from your point of view. It is appreciated as well as providing your contact information for members here that do have concerns with this new shipping deal.

What does Fedex know about shipping reptiles? Like I said before, the video is far from giving someone the know-how to ship a reptile. But like BT said....people will do things wrong with or without your service.....It is not your fault, but you could include a bit more in the site besides a video and a line about 'using common sense'. That is just my opinion though...take it or leave it.
Here is a quote from your site:

That sort of stuff is not good for the hobby, the reptiles, or your business. But then again, some people are stupid....it has nothing to do with your service. Stupid people ruin this hobby though.

I just joined up this morning and have been scoping things out. I understand wanting to save money.....I am all about saving money. But I am more concerned with the legality of things and openning the door for 'everyone' to ship without any sort of effort or understanding.
Like I said before, I wish your company the best of luck. Have a good one.
