Have anyone you ever witnessed your snake shed?
I have only seen it on TV. With my snakes, I just pick up a hide one day and there the shed is. I think it would be cool to see in person.

Never seen it but I've helped more than a few shed every thing but their hood and lower jaw. :D

Yep; I seem to have good timing when it comes to sheds! Royals are kind of shy, though, when it comes to that; being defenseless and all ;)

    Which one? :P

Yes, I have seen a few different ones shed on several occasions. They give you that deer in the headlights look, "Close my tub! I'm not done yet!"

I did the other day! It was cool but it was almost midnight and I was too tired to watch the whole thing. :)

Yup, I've caught a few of them at different stages of shedding. Normally I just find the little roll of shed in their hides though. :)

Re: Have anyone you ever witnessed your snake shed?
    Yes...

It looks like they are trying to scratch themselves without having any hands..

    Rather irritating, I can imagine.

First, they rub their faces up against something frantically, then, keep on rubbing.. Down down down down down til the tip.

    Rather interesting :D

I want to record my snake throughout the night via night vision on my camera and I'm going to record normal through the day. I'm hoping to catch a shed eventually.

Re: Have anyone you ever witnessed your snake shed?
    I catch them quite often.

My female "Olive" had a shed last week. I opened the tub, she crawled up into my hand and the shed just rolled off in my hand like pulling off a sock.

It is always cool too see. Especially when you get a perfect sock shed (always a sign you are doing something right with your husbandry).

Re: Have anyone you ever witnessed your snake shed?
Yep I've watched a few of them. When they are tucked into their hide and wriggling it reminds me of a woman trying to wriggle out of a pair of too tight pantyhoes LOL.

We had a funny experience one feeding night. One of the female BP's darted out of her hide, with her shed rolled about half way down her body, grabbed her rat, snarfed it down, gave us quite the look and then went back to finishing up that shed! LOL She hates to miss a good meal, that one. :)

I've seen several. I was lucky enough to catch my pastel starting a shed once and managed to grab some of the shedding process on film.

I've also been lucky enough to catch a few of my geckos shedding...before they've eaten all the skin.

    Teehee!

I've watched the boa when she was a baby, round and round and around and around in her hide...very cool. But the best has been watching the burmese...takes a loooong time, but I find the whole thing fascinating.

Funny story: I had 'Planet Earth' playing on the DVD player downstairs and went upstairs to do something, can't remember what and caught Lourdes just starting his shed. Sat and watched a "real" nature show while Planet Earth played on to an empty couch downstairs, hehe...

Yep. The big girl Hera...missed her head but watched the rest, and I've also seen a couple of the other snakes doing their shed thing, too. It's always cool to watch, and so weird picking up a brand-new, WET shed skin.

Re: Have anyone you ever witnessed your snake shed?
Yes, many times. I've even had them shed in my hands before which is pretty cool. They've started by pushing their way through the cracks between my fingers and stretching around between your fingers to get things loosened up. If this happens, it's really tempting to help them out, which is fine if you want to, but it's a neater feeling to let them do all the work using your hands as a rubbing stone/pulling branch.

Re: Have anyone you ever witnessed your snake shed?
I have never witnessed a normal shed by one of my snakes, but I have had to help one or two of my snakes shed due to humidity issues (normally when they are in QT in tanks). Just recently I had to help my corn shed everything but his head (he'd gotten that part off). I love the technique I learned from one of Adam's videos. You put the snake in a tub with a little water and put the tub in the rack. Come back in about 30-60 min and help them get the shed off. It comes right off and is so easy. :gj:

I've only seen natural shedding once with my Butler's Garter Snake, though I have assisted my Western Hognose twice in shedding with my special natural way, so it pretty much looked like shedding.

Yes, I have. He does not seem to mind showing off while he curls and goes around and around and around... *dizzy*

When it was needed, I also assisted once using the soaking method and a moist cloth.

It is very easy for me to tell when my Black blood adult starts a shed if I'm in the room. I can hear her banging around in her cage...moving her waterbowl around, rubbing against the cage, etc.

I've never seen my snake shed...but I sorta helped him start his first shed. I was holding him and he started rubbing his face all over my shirt. I wasn't sure what he was doing, but let him do it. I put him back and the next morning, he left a perfect shed in his tank. I guess he used my shirt to start the process :)

I have video of both Mona and Toby shedding, which I (think) I've posted on the forums. I also caught Mona in her shed last week, and she totally gave me that "deer in headlights" look. :D I was just checking to see if it had happened yet, and lifted her cave... she was about half done, and just looked ticked when I interrupted. I apologized, replaced the cave, and watched from the outside. Way cool!

A couple shots of Mona's assisted shed, which I got to witness from beginning to end... happy to say that ALL of my snakes have perfect sheds now, since moving them into tubs/rack. :gj:

Quite a difference between the old and new skin...

I've done the opposite quite a bi more. I've helped them get the shed off their heads, which is a lip-biting process when you're working forwards instead of backwards like it should.

Very cool... I eventually want something non-BP, and have always loved the brighter colored snakes like milksnake, kingsnake, etc. Maybe a Honduran will be my next addition? :)

I've witness 2 so far, the last one from my 5month old BP, I have a 20 minute video of it, but it's kinda dark and the sound is not very apealing... The video is too long for youtube.

Maybe I could edit the sound off, but Im not sure with what... never tried video stuff before. and I would still have the problem of where to upload it. Any sugestions??

    Thanx!
