    Fave Wierd food
I suppose wierd should be defined as not mainstream, but I am curious what your favorite "wierd" food is.

I am currently eating Sauerkraut on my Reuben, and I LOVE THE STUFF.
(Hence why I am asking, as i have had very strange looks from people about it, and its smell)

I also like chicken feet prepared chinese style, which also garners looks of disgust sometimes.

    What about you???

I thought saurkraut was part of a rueban - why is that weird? Or is the sandwich weird in your part of the country.

I love pickled okra, calamari, anything with squid in chinese dishes, eel sushi, etc.

Not the Reuben being weird, but the Sauerkraut itself.

I go out of my way to get extra on my hotdogs, reubens, etc...

I doubt the fan base of Sauerkraut is as big here as it is on the East Coast.

Actually, being from NC - we put coleslaw on everything. If you have Chick-Fil-et in your area - order the sandwich with slaw, and put the slaw on the sandwich - YUMMER!

Nothing better than a chili-slaw dog. Slaw on burgers, etc.

I'm a big fan of pickled herring, smoked chubs, crawfish, escargot, oysters, chicken livers, Scandanavian cold cured salmon and I like my steaks extremely rare.

Applesauce and cottage cheese mixed together... applesauce and mac and cheese mixed together... dipping cheetos in applesauce...

    I really like applesauce :D

Also, an excellent breakfast is scrambled eggs (with or without cheese), potatoes, and ketchup all mixed up together.

Oh, and corn flakes or frosted flakes in yogurt (preferrably vanilla yogurt, but any kind of fruit yogurt is good too).

    Yum! I'm hungry now...

OMG you know what taste soo good with cottage cheese? If you fry a banana with mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc. , w/e you like) with sugar-free maple syrup and then you fry the cottage cheese and put it on top of the fried fruits... Ummmm ummmm ummmmm... It's a good bedtime snack :chew:

I don't really think its weird but people at work always comment on my cream cheese & doritos bagels that I make.

My least favorite weird food that I sometimes see in my house is...cow tongue with parsley and garlic; everyone in my family swears its amazing but I could never get over the mental factor.

Smokes trout is awesome. I built that smoker last summer and I use it all the time to smoke every kind of fish I can think of. Whole rainbow trout and whole whitefish are the best!

I don't believe that there's any way that liver can be prepared that would make it taste remotely palatable for me. I can't get past the texture of it - bleck!!!

Oh Robin you've never had liver the way I make it then. Soaked 24 hours in whole milk to make it lovely and soft, then cooked in a pan that's already had good bacon and onion cooked in it so it soaks up all the yummy onion/bacon flavors. Served with pan juices and smothered in bacon and onions with some lovely fried potatoes......that's good eating!

YESH to the pickled okra, Chick Fil-et, smoked kippers, all-things-sushi...

I think the weirdest thing I occasionally crave is cottage cheese with french or catalina dressing and bacon bits on top....creamy, spicy and crunchy.

I think the world's most perfect food is spicy scallop handrolls for that reason...creamy, spicy and crunchy (well more chewy than crunchy with the nori, but...NOM!).

I use to think the same thing until I had some good ones at a chicken dive on Rt. 66. A co-worker took me there one day because he loved their livers so much. I got the recipe from the owner and tweeked it until it was something I could eat any time. My coworker says mine are way better after I brought him in a half pound to try. He ate the entire bowl on our lunch break.

I do the same thing except for the milk, and I'll use butter if I don't have any bacon fat. I season them and dredge in a little flour and sear them in the fat/onions. Then I turn the heat down and deglaze the pan with merlot and a little chicken stock and let it reduce a little. It makes a great sauce. I'll have to try the milk thing next time.

Do try the milk soak, Jake. It really helps liver become soft as butter and breaks down any of the connective type tissue that can make liver a bit on the chewy or tough side. I just pop the liver into a bowl, cover in whole milk and some saran wrap and let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours before I cook it.

    Re: Fave Wierd food
People always like to say I eat weird food, or have the 'preggers' combos... But then they try it and end up loving too... LOL...

I LOVE any sort of seafood, in all forms - sushi and mixed seafood alfredo among fav dishes... And can't stand beef that isn't bleeding (my family actually thinks its gross how rare I like steak), if a roast is done more than medium I sort of just 'pick' at it to be polite.

"odd" combos BBQ sauce and mayo and cheese doritos on any sort of burger - beef or chicken. Perch fillets with artichoke + asaigo cheese filling and wrapped in bacon(super yummy)... Spinach dip and cheese doritos.

I have a weakness for pickled eggs and smoked salmon too - but not the store bought smoked salmon, only my dads - it's drier more like beef jerky and much saltier... Plus, it's in big chunks, not thin little slices. And I put zucchini in just about everything, pasta sauce, chili, salsa, stir-fry, roasted veggies...

I guess the wierdest thing about my eatting habits though is that I refuse to cook or eat anything that comes in a box or involves a microwave. I only use fresh meat and veggies, I make my own sauces, do my own baking and only rarely even use frozen veggies...

We do the egg and rice , I think it is a spanish thing.

I love saurkraut and coleslaw also...
    Peanut butter and bannanna sandwiches..Yum...

Also grilled chicken hearts on a stick....delicious (peruvain food)

I also love the wasabi peas at the asian markets...

Liverwurst and mustard on white bread.....

Peanut butter and mayo sandwich. Ox tail. cow toung sandwich ( has to be sliced uber thin) All things sushi. Haggus if its real spicy. And when I went to Thailand I had a shot of bat blood that is suppose to be an aphrodisiac. I've eaten some really really bad things too. These are just the things that are good.

chicken feet is good! of course being chinese, thats not weird.that would be regular food. lol..
rat ears are good too. the black weird-looking mushroom.
monitor lizards are ok. their meat is kinda tough. but its not bad. reticulated python meat is ok too. but little meat and too many bones..
dont get mad guys, those are normal delicacies here in our provinces. but the monitor lizards are a protected specie now. but reticulated pythons are common here. you can buy one retic for $3-$6 here in the city. and around $1-$2 in the province.

I love fried pickles, fried corn( even the feed corn right of the cob...yums!) and any kind of mushroom, raw, fried, stuffed, you name the ways I will eat it..lol. Soy beans! Cowns tounge reminds me to much of a cats tounge, as they both feel like sand paper.. if cats didn't have sand paper toungs, i would probably eat the cow tounges.

I was more weird with food when I was younger. I used to dip my bread crusts in my coke. Also used to eat butter on absolutely everything-roast, porks chops, steak, ect. Nowadays I go for ketchup.

I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Also do the cornbread and milk thing, I think it's a southerner quirk. :D

French fries dipped in a milkshake is good too. As are potato chips of any sort on sandwiches.

Nothing too weird. I want to try alligator and rattlesnake but I can't get over the guilt factor. I figure I don't eat cat and dog so why eat reptile?

    I'm just weird I guess.
