Does anyone know if venemous snakes are legal in new jersey?

You need a permit. My understanding is that since they are may-issue that they are almost impossible to get.

Pretty sure you are out of luck there...not a resident but as far as I know hots are a no-go in NYC, & it does make sense IMO. A loose cobra in high density population would not go over well...

Animals aren't all banned for the same reasons: ferrets getting loose present a danger to local wildlife as a non-native predator, & can carry diseases. Not sure why NYC
bans them though. :confusd:
When I lived in So. Calif. it was also illegal to have gerbils, commonly kept as pets in many other states, because the strong agricultural lobby feared crop damage from
those that escaped or were released would become established, & even though they were similar to native species already there.
With venomous snakes, many high density population areas have a pretty good reason to just say "no", IMO. Even with permits, accidents (escapes) can happen.

Oh no doubt. I just figured if they drew the line at ferrets then hots would most definitely be on the "NO" side of that line.

You'll want to find a way to work with venomous animals and get some experience with them long before bringing one into your home.

You obviously want to go that direction, but I hope you have LOTS of experience with harmless snakes first. Taking good care of snakes that you cannot touch as you
would harmless ones makes health care a huge challenge, & one that very few vets want to help you with. I'm also not sure what the big draw is? -I prefer "hands-on"
pets -but yes, I've kept hots, mostly because the local rattlesnakes ended up in ppl's yards & needed relocated so they weren't needlessly killed. (The ones "kept" were
not releasable for various reasons...too long in captivity with someone else who turned them over to me, or they weren't healthy enough to survive re-location.)
And the word is "venomous". ;)
Re: New Jersey venemous snakes
Yea i don't plan on doing it in the near future. Just curious for when/if i ever do.
