    Could of been nasty
I was chilling last night watching a film last night with the missus and heard a few bangs upstairs in the snake room , so I thought one had escaped.
I went up and out the light on and shone a torch into each Vic doing a head count when I noticed Medusa my IMG boa thrashing about, she was only fed last week so not due for a few weeks, just her back end was out the hide so I pulled back wards. And there was a bit of a shock, she had the vent stuck round her neck, I was mortified as she really had it such under chin, I tried to bend the plastic but wasn't budging, so I had to run down stairs and get some tin snips to cut the vent to release her, by the time I was back up she had slipped down a bit as I had bent it for her, she was really hissing now, so I had to hold my hand over her head to cut it and calm her down , she was fine and u checked her over. I had to pop her in another Viv with sunglow over night till I sorted how to stop the problem , luckily I was in , next week I'm on holiday(vacation) I'm just so relieved.
I've put another piece of plastic with holes and glued it in,hope this has solved it

When I read that she had the vent around her neck I pictured something totally different...

Wow, it's amazing she was strong enough to do that. Good thing you were home!

Snakes do the darndest things :). That's amazing that she was strong enough to push through so a small space. What was she thinking though? Glad you were there to save the day Rich.

Wow! Glad you were able to get it off. They are incredibly strong...and determined. One of my boas taught me not to use the aluminum vents, the fins bent quite easily but luckily mine didn’t manage to get their heads through before I found out.

Wow, I'm so glad you were home & heard the commotion...glad she's OK too. Snakes sure can get in trouble sometimes.

I guess that goes to show you never underestimate the will of an animal, glad nothing worse happened! Best of luck.

Thanks everyone, really freaked me out, when I looked into everyone's viv with the torch to do a roll call, and she was thrashing about with just her head in the hide, when I pulled her out it was just under chin and wouldn't go the other way to remove it, so had to run downstairs for the tin snips, by the time I had found them she had moved it down a bit but was really hissing, had to hold her head so not too cut her, thank goodness I was there

Holy heck! I'm so sorry for the scare but I'm glad everything turned out okay! My mind is blown that she managed to push against the vent that hard!

Well, this seems like something to seriously warn others about, as it wasn't just you...Dianne said it's happened to her too. :confusd: It's a wonder the snakes didn't
cut their necks or noses in doing this? Was this the same brand of caging, I wonder?

Mine was a homemade melamine cage with aluminum soffit vents (link below). I would never have thought my boas could bend these, but they did. Luckily these vents were secured in place by a couple of screws, but it still could have been much worse. I’ve since upgraded to all manufactured cages, but will never again use any type of slotted vent like these again. :(

We animal-keepers have to be careful when we "borrow" things made for other purposes. The vents were made for air movement, not the push of a big strong snake,
but honestly I'd never have thought a snake would bend such a thing either. :confusd: They ARE super-attracted to "fresh air" though, & maybe whatever scents wafted in.
    Just glad none were injured.

The interesting thing about the vents I used is that they were designed to keep animals out of your soffits while still permitting air flow. No way would I ever have expected amy of my snakes to be able to bend one. :weirdface
