    Great outdoors...
I know I post to many pictures of my guy...I can't help it :) He got to go outside for a few minutes today. Just on my hands for now, because that's where he feels safe. But soon I will let him explore next to me on the ground some. Slowly building up his trust and confidence and it's working wonderfully. He was very calm. Here is Sandor...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...84d732379d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a6e69cabce.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2234cf78c4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...34a10e3db8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e1771f08fc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b2a06b292c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...073e30ae90.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bbb0b27e07.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1cc69d01a2.jpg

    Thank you :)

Nice thing about Bloods is that they actually GAIN color and brightness as they age.

This is an adult (not mine) and he isn't even set up in great light or with a great back drop.

And now I have to go and take care of my horse and sweat my butt off...sigh, life is hard.

You are really starting to get me hooked on these guys with all the incredible pics you have been posting. Especially that yellow eyed beast you posted the other day. I have been so close to buying bloods on a few occasions but I have always backed out because I was afraid I was going to complicate my husbandry. I have a lot of BP's in a room dedicated to the species. My racks are set up for 42 qt tubs. Paper for substrate. Ambient heat only 84 to 88. Humidity is rarely an issue since I am in South Florida. How much would I need to change my setup to start messing around with these guys?

In Buffalo, us diehard grillers just shovel a path to the grill and have at it.

Sandor is really so beautiful. I was at Oaks this past weekend. Nothing even came close. Very sweet snake!

It's funny you said this. I grew up in Michigan and that was the first thing My Dad would have me do is shovel a path to the grill.

Well, the only problem would be the temps.

Bloods actually like it a bit cooler then Ball Pythons. My cool end is only about 74 to 77 and the warm end up to 84/85 or so. If kept to warm, they can get grouchy. They do need humidity, but not a "swamp". And they need some air flow, so its not just humid, stagnant air. I really do not find the setup difficult at all. But high ambient heat might be an issue..

You can keep them in smaller tubs just like Ball Pythons, they prefer smaller when they are young. As adults, the males could stay in the same size as adult Ball Python females, but a female blood might end up needing a bigger size.

Many people eventually give them a T8 sized enclosure, 4 feet wide.

You could always keep the Blood in a different "cooler" part of the house ;)

I grew up in Milwaukee, and we love our brats. I lived in Florida for years, and grilled brats all the time. I introduced them to several people there, and they loved them.

By the way, those are some great pics of Sandor.

Ok, so first I saw that amazing animal's colors popping in the natural sunlight, then I saw the swimming pool full of crystal clear water, then came all the talks about Brats!!!! Yup, I'm drooling over here!!
    a) I love that snake
    b) pools are covered here in MA for at least another few months
    c) I ate kielbasa yesterday, now I want Brats...on the grill. I actually tossed my old grill at the beginning of winter, so it's getting close to time for a new grill :gj:. As a guy who has been working with food for almost 25 years, a new grill will be quite the treat!!

Hahahahaha, who remembers the Subaru Brat???

Mmmmm...grilled brats...we do them all winter under the broiler, but they aren't the same. I need to check the freezer to see if we have any brats my husband smoked last summer left.

And to get back on topic [emoji846], my blood isn't quite as mellow as Sandor, but she's getting better as she grows.

Thank you for the info. Finding a "cooler" part of my house would be a futile exercise. It got down to 77 inside last night and I had to sit in my snake room with a cup of coffee for a half hour to get to operating temperature in the morning. I swore when I got out of the Army I would never be cold again. I do want one of these guys though, so I am going to try to come up with something. I am sure there have been other people that have had to cool rather than heat so I am going to do a little research.

You got me hungry. I spent six years in Germany. If I was in garrison, every day after "work" I would walk across the street to the Imbiss and get a brat and a beer. It is very hard to find any real German food here. The closest I have found with brats is Boarshead. I still cannot get the right bread.

LOL, I'm always cold and I hate being cold. The only time the AC runs in this house is at night, to get it down to about 72 - 74 to sleep comfortably, or in the summer, when the house would rise to over 100 without AC. I usually set it for 77 to 78 during the day.

Those temps are perfect for Bloods. He has a UTH but its set to 86. The "ambient" does the rest (keeps it cooler).

As long as the ambient doesn't get above 87 or so, you'd probably be ok.
But any warmer (esp at night) they might get uncomfortable..

I'm sure you will figure it out, though :) They are worth it, such funny and different snakes :)

I loved them too! They stopped making them in 94, so there can't be many left. I haven't seen one in a few years.

Broiled brats still rock, but you can't beat grilled.

These are the absolute closest to the German Brats taste I have found. They are awesome. I have hooked many people on those. Grilled nice and brown, almost crispy...YUMMY. Only ones we buy anymore [emoji16]

    https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...84c6e83667.jpg

As for bread, closest I have come to German Brötchen are the "Chicago rolls" at Publix. Especially if you buy them before the afternoon, when they are still fresh. I buy them fresh (crunchy outside, soft inside) and then freeze them. Popped frozen into microwave for 20 seconds and they taste like fresh

Haha, I pick up the bags and squeeze the rolls. If they are spongy or mushy..bleh!! They got to be crunchy. But only just so. If they are so dried out that they crack and break, they are no good either.

    Yeah, a bit picky ;)

That little blood looks better in the sun. He's going to be amazing when he gets his adult colors. I look forward to more pictures.

I just keep my little Sumatran in the rack with my balls. The hot spot is at 90*, but the ambient runs about 80* with the cool side in the mid to upper 70s. I always find her hanging out where it's 80*. And with a water bowl large enough for her to soak in where she is 90% of the time, the humidity runs about 65-70%. She's more calm than most royals I've messed with, as long as she can get her little tail anchored on something, she's content. Though I plan to build a show tank to have a pair of sumatrans and a red blood, maybe a borneo to go with them.

These are the rolls that are very similar to German Brötchen. They should be somewhat crispy, but not dried out [emoji3] they are great for sticking a brat into them!
