Escaped BP!
So, today I decided it'd been long enough for Eden to digest her food and I opened her cage...lifted the hide and...no snake! Idk how because there are no holes and the top was pinned down! We have had her houdini her way out before, so we checked all her usual spots. NOWHERE. She is housed on a back porch (Florida room) and there is a possibility she made it outside. We tore apart the backyard but found nothing. Is there any way to attract her to the porch? Would live bait possibly help? I'm still reeling over the fact that she got out again (her previous owner lost her the first 2 times) and I'm frantic. I don't need her missing for 3 months like last time!

How do you have the cage secured? Just pinning down the top with heavy objects isn't enough. Multiple escapes makes me think that's your problem. Sorry, I don't really know of any way to lure a snake from outside (just keep an eye on sidewalks, stepping stones, and other places that stay warm at night). But if you fix whatever the problem is with your caging that will at least keep this from happening with your other snakes.

Re: Escaped BP!
How big is the porch/florida room? Can you describe whats in it, like chairs, boxes, tables. I would suggest not keeping any smaller animals out side (especially in florida) because the damn raccoons will find a way to have at them. I've lost birds in the past this way. Did you check under the cage? If the clips are on but there is no snake, that sounds odd. I hate to make this assumption, but could someone have stolen your snake?
One thing that I would encourage is to make a few funnel traps and put them lined up with the walls. If the room is small enough then the chances are higher of the trap working. They are simple to build and harmless. If your absolutely sure nothing can get into the room, then you may consider putting a feeder in its cage with the top opened. Maybe going outside at night would turn up results.
The good news if she made it outside the porch is that she will likely do fine as ball pythons have been found in the everglades a few times

The room is the size of a small kitchen. It's sealed up except for an open dog door and a gap under the main door to the pool area. There's a whole lot of stuff out there but we dissected everything. Definitely not stolen we have huge dogs to guard the back yard. I set a mouse in a keeper in an overturned cardboard box to try luring her out.

The cage is secured by a pin on each side that's supposed to keep the lid tightly secured to the tank. We found by pushing up, she could've created the perfect gap to slip out with. We are more so worried by the fact that she left the porch. Any other time she went missing, she stuck to the porch. (We found her previous spots from poo and shed) We are hoping she just found a spot we haven't thought of and is close enough to be attracted to the live bait.

Re: Escaped BP!
Is your pool area screened in? I don't know if it's possible, but maybe check your pool. I don't know the name, but you know the drain thing in the side of the pool, where it has the circle in the ground that you take out and it's full of leaves? Well the baby turtles and ring neck snakes get caught in that, so maybe check there. If your neighbors are nice enough, maybe they would allow you to search their yards. If it's beyond the porch then I would definitely try a few funnel traps. It's worth a shot

Re: Escaped BP!
Make a hot spot and try turn off other devices in the room. I found mine in the kitchen under fridge which s the only "hot " spot in the house. It's either heat or fresh water will get yr bp to pursuit.

This. And also maybe this too: get a wooden board big enough for your snake to be under, put it flat on the ground. Take one side and prop it up so there is just enough space for the snake to get under it and fit snug in the center of the board. If the sun hits it for a while then it will be good, if not then maybe make it a hotspot also.

Twice before with my roommate. She was his until he left her to fend for herself. I put her in a cage with a bolt lock and never had this problem but it molded so I switched to a glass tank with a screen top that I pock down and she still got out. This is the first time for me. The previous times she was gone for 3 weeks and 3 months.

It took me 16 hours to realize that "love bait" is a typo for live bait. Lol I feel slow, but anyway good luck. You say there's a gap under the door? How big is the gap and how big is the snake?
Also maybe he or she got into the house?

Re: Escaped BP!
BPs are timid snakes.....they typically don't cruise around looking for a good time. Someone once told me that a BP will rarely travel more than 10' from their enclosure. This has been the case every time that Ginger has escaped.
My advice is to check and recheck every box and tall place where she could travel. Ginger likes the top of the closet next to her enclosure, as well as behind the books in the bookcase. She may be right under your nose, but is curled up small.
Good luck! Btw, I've also heard of spreading flour around and checking it for "snake tracks".

I will try again. There's not a lot of places she could be I'M unless she went inside the freaking wall 😵

Look under the couch
I once found my ball python under the couch's pillows because of the warmth that they give.

When she comes back she will return to her old cage which is this http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...6199d5df7d.jpg sorry it was on its side for storage. Then we are buying the iguana a larger cage and putting Eden in the iguanas current cage http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...d4b8ceb93b.jpg. We will probably make modifications to turn it on it's side and get rid of the wire.

Re: Escaped BP!
How big was the snake? That gap looks big enough for a snake to slip under. My pastel squeezed through the gap between her tub and the top of my rack even though it was less than half her width. I found her curled up in the corner of the space under my rack.

The snake is 2.5 feet long and 2 inches around. X.x I'm hoping she's on the porch where I can't see her

All I can think of is to just keep looking. Give the funnel trap I mentioned earlier a shot. First with no prey inside, then with a f/t inside the next night.

Sorry you lost your snake...
Just wanted to share how I secured my glass tank with a screen lid like that. I used luggage straps from the dollar store and just wrapped them around the tank and tightened them, buckling on top. It worked awesome. When I switched to tubs, I started using the straps on them because the seal wasn't tight in the middles. They just work awesome.

Absolutely more than enough space under the door. These animals can smell fresh air and freedom! The clip on the tank are the same clips I have and I can tell from the photo the clips are on wrong! Brother, you have the clips upside down! There is no tension on the lid the way you have them applied or not applied. Wow! At least two security breeches exposed by the photos. The bp definitely is outside I can tell you that. Good luck and don't give up but I think you need to concentrate on the outside and the yard. Stay in peace and not in pieces!

Have you looked it up? It's simple! It can be a big 10 gallon bottle thing, it could be like the screen on your porch from Home Depot. If not that, then maybe place a hide or two alone the edge of your house/porch

I could try that. I was leaving slightly upturned cardboard boxes but it's raining. Last time she returned during a storm so maybe these incoming bad boys will flush her into the porch for shelter..

I just had the same weather, I take it were in the same area. Rest assured because if I'm right about us being in close areas, then worse case scenario your snake will be fine if she got out. They don't tend to wander far and so I'm sure ( again worse case scenario) you will see her again. This state is a haven for reptiles :). Just be patient and keep looking

No bodily injuries to report however she is antsy, smells like must, and her backbone is a little prominent...I also think she's thirsty. It's still way too early to set up her cage so I have her in my critter keeper with a thick towel to keep her warm ^^
