Bamboo!!!!
Has anyone seen this yet? Stunning, can't wait to see what this does. Hopefully the gene will find its way into the US.
Bamboo co-dom morph from Noah in Africa
The Bongo is nice as well
Bongo

Bamboo!!!!
The bongo stuff is cool, but WOW that bamboo morph looks amazing!
-
Bamboo!!!!
wow. the bongos alright but with how hot that bamboo is im sure it'll make it here. that thing is sick.
-
Wow, the Bamboo looks quite amazing.
The Bongo looks great as well.
-
Wow...Pretty sweet. The super bongo almost looks like a G stripe.
-
Re: Bamboo!!!!
That bamboo has beautiful colors. I wonder if its compatible with the BEL complex? It has some resemblance to them.

Saw this pop up on my FB earlier and was floored. Love the bamboo. I want to see what an axanthic one would look like.
-
x2 on the Axanthic Bamboo. My heart stopped with the thought of it. I need to quit my Axanthic addiction...
-
Re: Bamboo!!!!
the bamboo looks nice I already started daydreaming of what it would look like with other genes.
the bongo is alright kind of a lighter version of the super stripe.

I would guess axanthic would just make the colors darker since it is already silver/light grey

Wow that bamboo is gorgeous!

Wow those are cool! I'm excited for them to come to the states.

Re: Bamboo!!!!
I guess here they come, the african breeders :)
About time :banana::banana::banana:
Seriously, keeping BPs is easier over there, combine that with facilities that move tens of thousands of hatchlings. Gems, like the first pinstripe, used to get sold for large sums into the 1st world. Now i guess they breed them, prove them out, get their world first, and then sell later on.
Correct me if im wrong.... But the only data i got so far is that this breeder is located in Ghana. Highly interesting, who will be the first outside africa to work with this gene? Oh and be sure they have morphs to do the basic combos right away, i know there are breeders in africa that have the base morphs and breed them. Really, its the next logical step, why sell extraordinarily awesome dinkers when you can prove it out first and sell a brand new morph? So many morphs have "first produced" thousands of kilometers away from the natural range of ball pythons, its about time the people that share their surroundings with wild BPs tap into it. Ghana is surrounded by the natural range of BPs. Its logical.

X2.i thought that as well. Almost a mojave pattern but waaaay cooler colors, flames and blushing. Be interesting to see what the super looks like, let alone if it is in the BEL complex.

Such a horrible thing. They have actially been doing for a few years now. The farmers figured out what the big breeders were doing. Making tons of money. They wanted part of the action. Now most of the stuff that looks unique is kept there in Africa and we dont get to get them.
Noah is a big guy in Africa. He is a major exporter and I believe, if I remember correctly, has something to do with exporting all ball pythons. I know he is responsible for a lot of stuff that comes in.

Horrible? People will simply get it one or two generations later. Its really not that different from, for example, BHB keeping a lid on the sunset ball for a few years until they finally let go of a pair of hets for 50000 dollars or something.
Competition could get quite tough one day because in the natural range of BPs you can keep and breed them without need for thermostats, heating, or incubators. Thats quite an advantage, no electricity bills, also racks are much cheaper without the electronics.
-
The market is already crashing due to greed. You think it's going to get any better with the greed starting at the point of discovery/export? The ball python market is crashing, and it's crashing fast. The african farmers are helping it fall faster IMO.

I'm very curious to see why you're saying the market is crashing.
Edit: Actually, that might be better if started in a new thread, since this one is for admiring the Bamboo and Bongo!
-
It is crashing. It's getting harder and harder to move stuff. Prices are dropping on morphs faster now than before. The market is getting flooded with morphs. Most people don't see or know the amount of morphs that are out there. People have been mass producing animals to try and gain as much money as they possibly can before the price falls on them. This in turn hurts not only them, but us to. Anyone trying to get into breeding ball pythons to make money now is crazy. Look at Lavender albinos. Not a lot of people really working with them. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people working with them, but not that many. Lavs have dropped in price over 66% in just the past year. I have seen them recently at an asking price of 900. That’s just the up front asking price, not the behind the scenes price. What most people see as the price on morphs is not what they go for.

Come to San Diego and I'll show you stuff exporters aren't breeding. Tons of morphs come in that are untouched and amazing.
Oh, and the market isn't crashing. Lavenders are 13 years old... There are plenty of fabulous investments that will make you money. Breeding 10 year old morphs isn't a money maker. I still breed them, to new stuff.
Take the bamboo for example. If you invested 10k into a male bamboo, would you make money on it? How can you say that someone can't make money on BPs when you can? Easily.

Wow the bamboo is sweet, I can't believe that's not a designer morph!

Brent,
How many people can drop 10k+ on a snake? I said anyone coming into breeding now. It is a known fact that recesives hold their value. Pretty sure dropping from 3-4k to just 800 in one year is fairly substantial. Plenty of big breeders know that truth of things. Lets see how fast some of these high end morphs drop in value. If im wrong it would be nice.

Again, using lavender albinos isn't a good example. There is actually great explanation and it has nothing to do with the market. The toffee/candy compatibility drove their prices down. Toffinos were now beautiful and sold cheaply. Toffinos are a more impressive animal than a lavender in my opinion, and in the opinions of many consumers. Let alone toffees/candys are even more impressive than the rest and are already seen in the 5-10k range. As the toffee/candy project saw prices fall due to toffinos, I believe lavenders have been hit the hardest.
Now, saying high end projects will depreciate... I'm guessing you're meaning the banana project. Males make males that make males that make males. There is nothing wrong with the market. It's simply the project is the strangest EVER for production, so it has depreciated rapidly and will continue to do so. However, that is NOT the direct result of our market. It's actually the exact opposite. I think the more affordable that project will be, the MORE money will continue to come into the industry.
Snakes are selling right now for $7500-$10000. I have numerous projects people want to invest in because they believe they will make more money on them.
Scaring the ball python market into thinking its crashing is absolutely false in my book. The more people that get out and sell animals for cheap, the better others will be able to profit from their losses. People always want to buy the next best morph. It's not going to change until the next best more ceases to exist and I don't seen that happening anytime soon.
So who wants a bamboo?
-
My jaw actually dropped when i saw them... I'm willing to sell my soul to get my hands on one. So gorgeous. :O

Since no one has mentioned it yet, I do believe Crystal Palace Reptiles in the UK actually has a Bamboo of their own. They confirmed that it's an African import as well so I can only assume that they got it from Noah. Just based on those pictures, it looks like they don't age very nicely but that'll probably change with selective breeding. Either way, this was my favourite from WOBP's adventure in Ghana.
-
Still a really neat looking animal. It's just kinda disappointing how different it looks from the original pic. I really like how funky the pattern is and the white in there.

There are breeders here in the States that have breeder males. I have seen one in person. In fact, my friend just had an ovulation from a bamboo sire. Looking forward to getting into the project asap. Make sure to keep an eye on www.bambooballpython.com I think that is where he is planning to list the ones not being sold privately.

the thread has been dormant for several months, things have changed a bit.
different breeders now have them for sale. the ones i stumbled across are a female super bamboo for sale by BHB reptiles for 30000 dollars, and M&S reptilien (ms-reptilien.de , from Germany) has a male bamboo spider (bambee) for sale for 16900 euros. and thats just what i noticed, without looking too hard. give it one more year, and since its a codominant, things will pick up rather quickly, more hatchlings will become available, and prices will start going down. Noah from Ghana also continues to breed them and is taking the gene into multi-gene combos.
patience, they will become available, give it 1 or 2 more years and most of the big breeders with big wallets will have them.

Interesting project.
If I was to invest $20K+ in a morph right now it would be an Atomic. Far more interesting IMHO....

100% agreed.

Re: Bamboo!!!!
Yeah, but does it get any better than the atomic ball really? I'm sure it's not for everyone, but it is incredibly mind blowing to me.

They already do have them. There are way more Bamboos here than you may think.

Actually, I bought that one about 4 or 5 months ago.

Try $50k!

The $20k was referenced to the Bamboo as they will likely fall the same path as the Banana and GHI in quick fashion. Both are in many hands for a few years now.
The Atomic OTOH is in far fewer hands than either of the above, and may note a $50K sticker depending on the market. The one reason the Atomic will stay up in value is that you have a breeder producing them who actually cares about the market, and will not cave in if they don't get their asking price just to make some money. I wish more people would follow that lead.
2 years ago the Bamboo, Banana and GHI were $50K+. Who is still standing at $50K?
-
Noted. I was letting people know that it was no where near 20k.
Well the banana is a different situation and doesn't really apply to the typical morphs. I've never seen the bamboo at 50k. Actually, they were cheaper a year ago and then went up in price and perhaps have dropped a little bit now. I have two of them. Also, Noah didn't let any of these in the US until 2013. I think Amir brought the first one in from Crystal Palace.
Matt never sold a GHI for 50k as far as I know either. I know someone bought one through someone else for around $30k but that's only because Matt wouldn't sell one to that person directly.
As soon as a morph gets into other people's hands it's out of the originator's control. The atomic is recessive; so, it will hold up better no matter who has it.
Note I am not trying to argue with you but I would like the numbers accurate. Price declines are just a natural part of the market. Just because the banana was weird due to it being around a lot longer than people knew, the weird sex thing, etc doesn't mean that every morph from here on out is going to decline 30k in one year. I don't know, maybe I'm just too positive or naive?
