Saw the title and chose not to watch. I'll pass on anything that celebrates proud ignorance, i.e. believing in something when all available evidence says that said beliefs are unwarranted.

Woohoo. We have a atheist in the house! (That was a sarcastic remark BTW) Its nice to think that if you were to die in battle, that you would just rot in the ground eh? Very comforting.

Way to celebrate diversity and show your tolerance of other people's beliefs! (That was a sarcastic remark BTW)

I believe there's some stuff about throwing of stones and loving thy neighbor... but then you probably are totally aware of that.

While I'm sure the video is really touching, carols just set my teeth on edge. So I'll assume that it's very touching and the people in the mall truly felt uplifted by the music/song.

Lol. It just makes me laugh how people who don't believe think its icky and gross and they won't even watch a cute video. I have friends that believe and don't believe. I have gay friends and straight friends. I have Muslim friend and Hindi friends and Jewish friends. I tolerate everyone, apart from those who just have to say how much they hate religion of any kind. This was just put up in lovely Christmas spirit and the "war hero" had to make a snarky remark as to his beliefs. He is pushing his non belief harder than the OP. Thats what I can't stand. I also like poking the fire and getting under people's skin. So I'm glad it's working!

Oh wow. Never knew Christmas got so many up in arms. Now I disagree with Bruce. Faith is an essential part of life for some whether others think the greater being exists or not. But my god really taking stabs at him like that is uncalled for. And I will not stand by and watch you insult my friend. Please take your nonsense else where it's not welcomed here.

Like said before I have no real beliefs one way or another but I love seeing people come together in harmony in times when things are grim no matter how they come together. That was only a song and they pushed no religion on anyone, they merely shared their talents and was lovely at its least. Thanks for posting I thought it was rather cool :)

Just because it's not comforting, that doesn't mean it's not true. If that were the case, we'd all just think away all the discomforts of life and everything would be perfect. In my opinion, the thought of rotting in the ground isn't comforting, but it's not NOT comforting.

I think the dig about dying in battle was a little much, considering.

He's perfectly allowed to. I never said he wasn't. I said it bugged me. In the same way I suppose as the way my opinion seemed to bug everyone else. It just doesn't make sense that people are allowed to say "I don't believe because blah blah and so forth" and when people jump up and say "I do believe because blah blah and so fourth" they always get jumped on for "forcing" their beliefs on someone. A "free" country shouldn't mean "let's all come together from everywhere around the world and not offend each other!" It should be "let's all come together from around the world, and live in harmony no matter what you believe!" Like seriously no more "ho ho ho" for Santa? Having to say holiday party instead of Christmas party. Political correctness is not about everyone being treated fairly. It's about making sure the majority doesn't offend the minority's and that's just plain wrong. It's the same as the "feminists" who want special treatment to do certain jobs. That's not equality that's just reverse sexism. Rant done.

I have no problem with your opinion, in fact I said I disagreed with gsarchie. What I have a problem with is your personal attacks on him. You speak of fairness and not offending and coming together, yet you did the opposite. I'm just saying if you want to have a debate and state he is wrong the by all means do so. But don't personally attack him (or anyone else for that matter). He will give you the same respect.

Ya. Your right. I've never really been able to debate very well and this particular topic winds me up quite a bit.

Gsarchie, I'm sorry for attacking you. It was childish and stupid. I will try and think more before my thumbs start to fly.

Geeze peole, why does everything always have to be a religious debate on here????? So Bruce doesn't believe in God, that is his right and opinion. I for one do believe in God but that does not mean I am going to attack another member of the forum just because they do not. Happy Holidays folks.

So every one jumps on interloc for attacking the man but ignore the fact that the guy called every religious person ignorant. his beliefs are his own but to call me ignorant because I choose to be a Christian passes me off. He is the same guy who will turn around and speak of a Christians lack of tolerance but think its perfectly ok to spit on my beliefs. So I feel interior was well within his rights to say what he did. Thank you for standing uo for what you believe while everyone else does their best not to offend the atheist.

I don't think he was using the word ignorance as an insult, even though thats what everyone seems to think.

It is very hard for someone to offend an Atheist ;) But extremely easy to offend those who subscribe to religion.

No one can prove or disprove the existence of a god, but just as Christians truly believe with every fiber of their being there is a higher power, Atheists truly believe there is not.

I respect the rights of those who choose to believe in God, even though I personally believe it is nonsense. Me calling it nonsense is not an attack on your beliefs, it is me expressing my opinion ;).

This video bothers me because it makes it seem like everyone in that mall subscribes to the same religion, which they likely don't. Also it is very staged.

IF the one had disagreed with him calling Christian people "ignorant" or said it was insulting for him to say something like that in response to a "feel good" video, I would have agreed. But to attack someone in the intolerant manner, inplying that somehow Atheists are not welcome, and to go as far as mentioning dying in battle... that's tasteless and nasty. Then to post how they just like to get people riled up, as if they just have to throw some insults to get attention... well I don't feel sorry for telling them they're intolerant and a pita.

I'm all for Christians running about doing whatever makes them happy, but the fact that ANY time someone tries to point out that it IS supposed to be a separation of Church and State and that plastering Christian stuff all over everything public is MAYBE just a little arrogant to the fifty other religions (that Christians would scream about if THEY put up a public display) suddenly descends into the "ATTACKS ON CHRISTIANITY!!!" and "Death of Christmas!!" is ridiculous in the extreme.

The fact is, there's about 5000% more Christian displays plastered all over everything all over this country. If someone takes down a "Merry Christmas" sign to replace it with a "Happy Holidays" sign in order to include all the non-Christian believers in the festivities... it doesn't mean that Christianity is being killed off.

There's my rant. Whine about it, shout about it, or disagree with it. It's your right to do so.

ignorant- Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.

I, for one, have never heard the word "ignorant" used with a positive connotation, or by anyone for that matter, who did not have direct intentions of offending someone or putting someone else "below" oneself. religion aside, if i called you ignorant for any reason, would you not assume i meant to offend? or, at the very least, intend to make you know i think higher or better of myself than you? when noobs come on here and ask simple questions regarding their snake husbandry we do not call them ignorant in their animal keeping, because we know that's not nice. we all believe in manners don't we? and sometimes that means not saying anything if you don't have anything nice to say. calling religion "proud ignorance" was completely unnecessary and brought absolutely nothing positive to this forum.. quite the opposite actually. whatever god we believe in (or don't), we come from the same one (or don't).

Ignorant can mean lacking awareness. Perhaps that is what he meant. Sounds much less offensive than lacking knowledge. There are some aspects of religion that, in my opinion, do fall within the definition of ignorant. It doesn't mean that religious people are uneducated, it means that there are certain things that the majority of people agree to be facts that religious persons don't because of said religion.

    I agree the wording wasn't spectacular. :/

I'll leave it at that. I'm just trying to make you all aware that ignorance isn't necessarily a negative word. It only is when you interpret it that way.

It's unfortunate, although I suppose not surprising, that this turned into a religious debate. IMO most religious discussions on the Internet lead to nothing but nasty words and hurt feelings.

I will say, though, that I think it's a bit of a stretch to expect people to NOT take offense to being referred to as ignorant. I have never heard someone use "ignorant" in a positive way, and I have certainly never been pleased to hear someone call me that. Just my 2 cents.

I have always used the word "Ignorant" to mean "not having knowledge of" as opposed to being an insult. I am ignorant when it comes to speaking Spanish. I am ignorant with regard to "String Theory" and "Quantum Physics". While I am ignorant with regard to these things, that doesn't mean I am incapable of learning them. If I want to insult someone or I think they are incapable of learning, then that is different than "Ignorant". For that I reserve the word "Stupid". Just my $0.02

Hold up, An atheist does not believe there is no God or gods. An atheist is someone who does not believe in God or any gods. There is a big difference. If I told you that there is an even number of blades of grass on my lawn you would be ignorant to believe me. Not believing me does not mean that you believe there are an odd number of blades of grass. Big difference. I am an atheist and I don't believe in any gods. Whenever you start a sentence by saying "Atheists believe" chances are pretty good you are misrepresenting atheists. The only thing required to be an atheist is to not believe in any gods. This is not a statement about what you do believe. There is a big difference.

I believe there is no God.

Your first sentence says "An atheist does not believe there is no God or gods."

I agree the statements are different. But I guess I am still missing your point. I don't get why you are so offended with the comments I made?

Not believing in god and believing there is no god are both in a similar boat.

It was this part right? Let me break it down, just so I know I'm not crazy.

Christians believe there is a higher power.

Atheists believe there is not a higher power.

Just to be clear, I am a super atheist. I'm not disagreeing with you. Just trying to understand why the difference between those two comments is bothering you so much? I don't even think that is what I said...

How can you say that "I don't believe in gods" or "I believe there is no gods"? To me the first one says "there is a god but I refuse to believe" and the second says "I think no god exists"

At its simplest form its like this. On one hand if you believe, you will spend eternity in the best place you can think of with the best people and things you can think of, or I turn to worm food. It's a no brainer for me anyways.

Is it potato or potato? Lighten up, folks, really. Everyone here is an adult (I hope! If not, why are you on the Web unsupervised?!) so agree to disagree and move on. People can call me anything they want via an Internet forum and on occasion have done just that on other sites I frequent. Who cares? Agnostic, atheist, believer, Believer, Druid, Wiccan, sea fairies that talk to sea monkeys to make them dance, etc., what's it matter? Do what works for you and I'll do the same. I don't espouse my beliefs or thrust them on anyone else for a very simple reason: I believe that if my religion is the best and the Way, the Truth and the Light, I can do more by LIVING what I profess to believe and what my religion teaches me than what I can brow beating someone into submission with insults, a holier-than-thou attitude or snide comments espousing my professed or believed superiority either as a person or because of the religion/teachings/beliefs I choose to follow/adhere to. Each to their own and live and let live. Now, how 'bout that ultramel-pied-axanthic that was just produced?! Hahahahahaha! If only...!
