Beard growers unite!
Lol hi everyone...just wanted to see if there are any fellow beard growers out there. I've been growing for about 13 months now, it has been quite a journey. I never thought it would be that much of an ordeal, but over the past year have ran across things I never thought about until
I decided to stop shaving. Mostly positive, but also surprisingly negative. I never thought people's reactions or notions of beards were that strong until
I few one, every day either hear negative thoughts (from people that don't even know me) and sometimes positive (which surprises me). Not growing out of a need for attention (I hate attention) just growing for the experience and to see how long I can go, and it's been fun. Going to try for 5 years or more, passed the first hurdle of my yeard, see how it goes.
Anyway any other beard growers out there?

well in about 14 months im going to start. The longest ive been able to go in the last few years was 30 days while on leave ( im in the army). Everytime I start growing the hardest thin for me is the itching. Cant wait to start for real though.
-
Ah I know what you mean. The itching usually goes away after the first month from my experience, once you get past that the most annoying things are shedding ( hair everywhere ) and eating/drinking, have to make some
adjustments when eating and drinking as the hair gets in the way lol
-
Oh sorry forgot to say thank you for your service, you are a hero on the most serious ways. I was in the army years ago (11 bravo) and your service is needed and appreciated..thank you so much

Same here. I had some EPIC chops that went down to my shoulders before I enlisted. But once I get out its on the top of my to do list.
Epic beard by the way bro!

Thank you. I am an 11 bang bang myself. And thank you for your earlier service!

I live just north of Detroit and you wouldn't believe the comments...actually had someone ask me if I was a Hasidic rabbi...ah, yeah lol

Did my basic at Fort Benning in 1992 and was stationed at Ft Campbell, was an interesting experience. If I was 20 years younger I would join tomorrow damn I miss it
-
Sorry, I'll throw in my .02, I much prefer clean cut. Mustache and goatee ok, so long as its kept trimmed, and short hair. But that's just me. :)

I would love to grow a beard. Unfortunately I have 25% Native American genes. Have you seen a pure blood Cherokee or Seminole with a beard? I haven't. The best I can do is a short goatee. When I grow my facial hair out (and out of pure laziness 'cause I don't like to shave) it's spotty. There are gaps of clean skin. And it's rough and coarse. As it grows it will start to curve back and the ends will rub against my skin like steel wool.
It's just a big catch 22 for me. Even when I am not lazy, my skin is sensitive and I always break out in little red bumps on my throat and usually get in-grown hair. And this is with using razors and products meant for sensitive skin.
As for taste, some styles just don't look right on certain faces. Unless you look like Santa, ZZ Top, or Shaycarl long beards don't work for most guys.
-
My girlfriend hates lots of hair anywhere haha. So I only get past a few weeks before she threatens to tweeze every whisker out. I go and trim at that point lol.
-
I wish I could grow a big beard 😢 work won't let me grow it past three weeks once I get around there everyone reminds me to shave. I'm a CNA, getting ready to start working as an emt and working on starting the fire fighter program, none of those people enjoy beards.
-
I am gunna start growing a beard in January. Because for October of next year I am going to be a viking for halloween! I am gunna try to get my brother in laws to join me.
Most women I know HATE facial hair lol but oh well :P Its not like I am trying to get a girlfriend anyways XD

I'm with you on I grow patches when I don't shave. I look like I have mange. I wish I could blame my native American roots (great grandmother was Sioux) but my brother has been able to grow a beard since 8th grade. I can grow a goatee the longest it ever got was 2 inches at which point my work made me trim it. Op awesome beard!!
-
Wow that is an intense growth. Kudos to you on growing that.:gj:

That my friend, is a sweet frock. props to you for sticking with it.
I grow mine every winter and try to stick with it in the summer but when it gets too hot I give in and shave it down to a goatee. I'm 3 Weeks in on my winter growth now and i'm going to try my best to not succumb to the heat next summer and let the thing grow wild. Here is a 3 week old beard:

And here is what it will look like in a few months(puffed up for effect of course:

Re: Beard growers unite!
Have not shaved since I got out of the Army in 83, though I do have it trimmed every two months when I get a hair cut. I originally decided not to shave anymore because of always having to while in the military, but now I keep it mainly to hide my double chin. Good thing I have a wife that likes beards.
-
i cant grow a beard to save my life. I go 6 months + with out shaving and it looks like i only missed a few days shaving. It always stays very short and patchy.
this is after about 7 months without shaving here

This is my beard now not as long but still awesome. Got a new job and had to trim it up a bit.

I love my beard and plan on having it the rest of my life!!!!!

I stopped shaving completely for a couple months after I got out of the Marines but I cant stand having too long a beard. It only got about 2 inches before I trimmed it. My avatar pic is of me about a year ago when I was still in. Now I keep a beard but I trim it back and maintain it. I had a beard my senior year in high school and I was one of only a couple that could actually grow one so I felt pretty special. :)
-
MasonC2K I am right there with you. I am 25% Cherokee and have really sensitive skin and hit and miss facial hair. After being in the Army for 6 years, my first goal was to grow a beard. I was somewhat heartbroken when I realized that after joining at a young age when I was unable to really grow facial hair, I hadn't gotten any better at it over the years:tears:

Yep. At least I don't have to worry about going bald. I've grown my hair out considerably (if you couldn't tell from my avatar pic). I guess that is some sort of compensation. I rock a hard core ponytail. LOL!
-
I fully shave every year or two for some reason or other and feel pretty exposed until I have an inch or two of growth. The longest I've gone without a good trim is probably 6 months give or take. I can't go more than a couple weeks without trimming the stache though, I get annoyed trying to eat otherwise.
Here's a glimpse of my beard with a fair bit of growth, playing second fiddle to the feral kittens I nabbed..

I hate facial hair and shaving. Shaving is a PITA lol. If i could just instantly have a beard thatd be cool but after not shaving for like 2days my neck is so itchy i can hardly stand it. I think the longest ive gone without having is like 4 days haha.
-
The only time I actually grow out a full beard is during 'no shave November'. And for a 17 year old mine's completely full and could grow at the rate of a little less than .5 inches per week ._. And during that time my mom called me Osama Bin Laden.
I used to have a short goatee that I trimmed every week, but, shaved that off. Now I just shave everyday. Which I hate, yay Indian genes! :/
-
I can't grow a beard for crap either. Like Chris and few others, it comes in fairly patchy, but I've had a mustache and goatee for several years now. I used to have it down to my armpits or so, but work makes me keep it fairly short these days. It is probably only about an inch now. I'd love to have a full on viking beard, though.
-
When I was in high school my beard was so epic I could easily buy beer without being carded. Now I wish I wouldn't get carded because now I have to shave stupid AR-670-1.

I would like to think if I was a guy I would have an epic beard.
I personally love guys with beards/goatees. I think my favorite would generally be the.....chin fuzz style? Like just a beard but more like goatee length....a shorter beard kinna thing. That said different things look better on different ppl. Either way imo chins should not be bare.
FACIAL HAIR FTW!

I will be growing my winter coat starting sometime in October. I usually grow it out from about October until march/april. I would love to go longer but wifey doesnt care for it. Last year I did an Able Lincoln/ Amish looking beard.
-
Ok I'm gonna bring an old thread back to life here a little bit just to add a pic. So every year for deer hunting I don't shave and normally keep the beard for a month or two after. So at three weeks here's where I'm at in all of my hunting fashion hahahttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/17/vahe2ave.jpg
Sadly it won't get much longer schools already harping on me to shave (even tho it's not mandatory for me to shave until I start the actual fire fighter program, emts can have all the beard they want but since I'm set to start the classes they want me to start following the rules like I'm already in it.)
-
I started in sept. My wife hates it but I like it.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/17/2usupu7a.jpg

Been growing and shaping it out since last Mar.

Bah I want mine to be as long as yours is! Grumble grumble school and their rules 😡haha
-
Beard growing is a work of love it took a long time to get it to look like it does and I had some serious ugly stages.

Ha I learned the hard way to not try and groom it so its all fancy with my need to have it line up the same on both sides I end up cutting off way to much and look silly lol so I let it grow as it likes and trim the edges so its not all weird edged, I'd love to grow it back out to a a good length but according to my instructors it's a no no an if I don't start shaving daily by January 14th they will shave my face. An know what it sounds tempting to just let them shave my face for me I'm lazy and hate shaving its a win all around for me haha.
PS. Bill T why haven't you chimed in on beards yet! Your beard is becoming epic yet your not sharing with us all don't make me come take a picture myself :)
-
I can't grow a full man-beard, but my goatee is at about 5 1/2 inches now. I love it.

Started growing in September but I'm going to go solid into Spring probably. I'm doing a full beard and a handlebar. I've done a handlebar before but not with a full beard. I always do someting for the winter months.

I was 33 in that 1st pic. Thanks though brotha!

Haha I'm bad at guessing ages but a 25 year old of my uncle and a 33 year old you look crazy alike.

I wish I could grow a full beard. I've had a goatee for years so I decided to change it up a little bit with handlebars. I've thought about using rogaine or similar products so I can grow a full beard. As for now this is all I got.

I grow mine out every winter but usually keep it trimmed a bit. Stated this around labor day. This year I decided to just let it go till spring. I do trim the stache a bit. I can't stand it in my mouth....
