    So my friend told me..
That she used to have a ball python female that was 8 ft long. And that ball pythons have fangs.
Im wondering if she was sold.another species being passed off as a ball or what? But fangs? Really?

Possible (that she had another species and not a bp). I know a lot of non snake people tend to over guestimate a snake's size, so a 4' snake might appear wildly huge to someone who's not familiar with them. I bet if I were to take my 5' boa out people (people who aren't around snakes regularly) would guess him at 7-8'

She sais she had ot for about 5 years, and.when it got so big she had.to give it to a breeder who could handle it better.

Sure she wasn't pulling your leg?

Maybe she could describe what it looked like?

No she was dead serious, even had her bf baxking her up. She argued with me for 10 min on the bps having fangs thing.

I saw an ad on CL a while back for an 8ft ball python. Me thinks people get their pythons confused. When I told my aunt about me getting a BP soon she asked "and what are you going to do when it gets 20 feet and eats your children?!"

I think she had a burm or a larger species, but shes determined to think it was a bp

Maybe she got sold a burm/boa/retic/etc but the breeder/pet store employee said it was a bp so that's what she believed and still believes. If that's the case someone didn't do their homework :colbert:

I've had a guy tell me he had a 16ft Bald Python, yes he called it a Bald Python. Another dude told me he had an 18ft Carpet Python after I corrected him that mine wasn't a kingsnake.

You would be amazed how many people know NOTHING about snakes.
I get asked all the time how I can live with such HUGE snakes (all ball pythons) and if they are "poisonous."
I have to fight my urge to roll my eyes every time.

I saw a 14 ft "Boa Python" on Craigslist. Said it weighed 40 to 50 lbs.

I have seen it spelled "Bald" a good number of times.

Its a wonder that people that cant even figure out what type of snake they have can provide the care it needs to live.

Also did I read this right? Yalls ball pythons dont have fangs? Mine has fangs and a rattle. Now Im wondering if mine is actually a BP. ;)

    Thanks...:)

We had a heck of a time getting him down from there.

We ended up carrying him, still gripping the Mossberg to his Boa Condo.

That feller sure loves his firearms.

The "poisonous" thing is one of my major pet peeves. Snakes are "venomous", not "poisonous".

    :eyeroll:

P.S - I'm well aware of the poisonous colubrids in the Rhabdophis genus. But for arguments sake, I just go with "Snakes are venomous. Not poisonous." :P

Nah, that's what the neighborhood kids are for. My kids know the difference at age 3 & 6 (Though the three yr old calls it a bald python) :D

Living in florida, my relatives from up north asked "Why don't you just go down to the glades and catch one. There everywhere down there aren't they? Yes...they run the streets. Along with all the alligators that people walk like dogs. (And no, as much as I wanted to be a sarcastic..well..me...I explained the difference of pythons and that we are not "infested" etc..)

Poisonous bps? Well stop eating them. Geez.

I have a friend that said his brother had a 8 foot python. I keep asking if it's a burmese or something similar. He thought 'python' was a species. Also, it annoys me when people have no idea what a morph is. Like I understand not knowing what, say, amelanistic is or what it looks like, but we learned what a morph is in the 8th grade science class. They think it's a different species alltogether.

If it had fangs I don't know how it could have been a ball python. Some people aren't too educated and definitely mix ball pythons up with other species. It sounds impossible, but animal planet does it all the time. There have been some monster ball pythons that get well over the average size, but still, they don't grow fangs just because they are that big.

I have to clarify with people all the time when I mention we have a new BP, otherwise their next question is typically: "Aren't you concerned it will eat your baby?"
