whats the difference
whats the difference between a normal and a fancy ghana ball python just wondering
-
I've seen a few advertised like that.. Obviously they're imported from Ghana, most likely hatched in captivity, and probably just look "nicer" than your average CB normal Ball Python. That's my understanding. :)
-
Nothing. Ghanas are usually random snakes that people use for dinkers in hopes that they could stumble onto something genetic. They are usually bought in whole sale so there is all sorts of different looking snakes. I'm not sure if they are all wild caught or just imported.

Re: whats the difference
i just know there is a person auctioning them off and getting a nice little pocket change for normals just wondering if they are worth the extra price or should i stay away from them and just stick to buying some morphs
-
That would be Ben Siegal's auctions you are talking about :) He imports "bags of Ball Pythons" that I believe are CH clutches produced by WC BPs in Ghana. After they hatch in captivity in Ghana they are sent as whole sale purchases. I haven't looked much into it, so I could be wrong about how they do it in Ghana. He typically auctions them off in groups, most likely because there's nothing special about them so he has no need for them. Lol. Great auctions though, I love watching them!
EDIT: Yes, you should just stick to morphs. Imported "fancy" or "dinker" BPs are a gamble with a very low percentage of actually hitting anything genetic.

Re: whats the difference
i have seen these auctions and it amazes me the money people will pay for a (pretty) normal ball i guess to each there own

Recently he's had spiders, orange bellies, green pastels, and some fires. Mostly males though. Fun to watch.

He's actually had some very nice BPs up for auction in the past few months that were not normals. As well as some other gorgeous snakes. Most of the morphs I've seen him auction off have sold for insanely low prices, it amazes me sometimes. If I could afford it at the moment, I'd be bidding on them too!

I haven't heard anything but positive and I think its kinda a fun thing to run. There has been some amazing prices. When I get my rack set up I'll probably be watching it more closely.

No gaurauntees that your friend request will be accepted though, apparently he's hit the limit since it is a "Person" account not a "Fan Page" (not sure why he doesn't move his auctions to his fan page). You also have to send him a message if you want to participate in the bidding, which will get your request accepted quicker, of course, because the more bidders, the higher the price. :P

If you message him and ask he'll add you. He's has two pages. One does VIP auctions now, where the snakes are pricer.

People always will want to have the next best thing! Finding a ball python that looks weird, and ends up being a codom morph or something with an insane super form is awesome, and a lot of people would pay money for that chance! Imagine the people who found things like the spotnose or some of those other ball pythons that pretty much look normal other than a bit of wonkyness.. People have high hopes!
And...Well, this is my personal view... I would be willing to spend plenty of money on a pretty normal if it could turn out that it was genetic. I dislike when people think 'any old normal will do' with breeding, because there is such variety in normals! The work doesn't all have to be put on the morph, the normal can contribute to the genetics as well. There are some super bright normals, almost as bright as fires...imagine using them in a line of pastels or hypos where you want a brighter snake. Or the weird pattern of the black backs with things like albino! There is some cool stuff out there. I think too many people just use whichever normal they have and don't consider the traits, and then are disappointed when they have an average looking clutch of ball pythons.
Some people get a little outrageous with the cash they spend, but that's how auctions go. Most of his stuff he auctions off end up selling for ridiculously cheap though, so I guess it sort of evens out hehe!
I've considered getting one of his rainbow boas. Always gone when he has the auctions though. Almost won once! But got outbid at last second.

Depends on the snake... I You talking about BEN he had some good stuff this year..some of them was black back and i saw really nice one it goes for over 200 (female) he had possible black belly and that snake was sold for way above 300$ He had few nice striped animals few nice granites...People risk some money hoping that they prove genetic... Some of them do :gj:.. Like You say in USA: No pain No gain ;)

one of Ben's today's stuff.... this Guy Is already 75$ looks almost like gold harlequin.. I dont gonna be suprised if it goes above 150$ ... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...&type=1&ref=nf
People payed crazy amount of money for stuff what dont prove.. If I good remember Brian from BHB have payed few dozen thousand of dollars for sunset ball and that one dont prove be genetic... but other his stuff does and give him bunch of money...Like I said No Pain No Gain...
