Well not on purpose, lol.
This one is a female and she's spoken for as soon as she's weaned :P
-
Shame, I'd have given quite a bit for her....

Re: Who needs a tail
I just started breeding myself, picked up 3 trio's about a month ago. I've had one female go, and she gave me 11 pinks and ate one. I ended up feeding off all the pups before they were weaned.
My question is, how long does it take for them to Wean out on average? Just curious since I wasn't able to quite make it there my first batch :) Thanks!

I double checked, he's certain he wants her since he also has the male that made my adult female that just made the manx.
If for some reason he changes his mind then she will become available...:)

I wean some at 3 1/2 weeks and others go 4 full weeks, it partly depends on how many are in the litter and how well mom can feed them.

Very Nice! i have to go search for some new bloodlines for my rat breeding project as well.
-
She's doing well and growing fast, looks a lot like her mom except with the tail missing,
Anyone ever breed manx females without issues?

Thanks, thanks a lot Jerry! The more I see your posts, the closer I am to building my own rat rack. ;) Awesome stuff. I enjoy reading your rat threads. I've kept them as pets in the past and they are awesome creatures.

Thanks!
The joys of breeding quality rats far outweighs the work involved :)
-
She's unbelievably cute. :aww: She looks like a wanna-be hamster.

There usually are not complications with manx rats being mothers. Nothing more than a normal rat would have anyways. :)
Just watch out for spinal problems in the first few gens, if nothing pops up you should be fine to carry on breeding them! You just always want to be sure with a new line of manx. ;)

Thanks, he wants to breed her back to her grandfather who is a dwarf to see if he can get lucky enough to make a dwarf manx :)
-
Dwarf manx would be interesting. But again, just look out for spinal problems, especially when crossing those 2 genes. ;)
If he gets a dwarf manx 1st/2nd, and it has no problems, then there should be smooth sailing! The problems usually show up in the first gen or so.
I don't know that I've seen a dwarf manx before!
I'm getting some hairless manx carriers soon, and i've seen a hairless manx (one named wombat, LOL) but never a dwarf hairless! :D
I'd really love to see a manx harley. . . :D
-
I've made dwarf double rex hairless but no true hairless, tiny little pig like rats, haha.
I agree, a Dwarf Harley would be pretty sweet too, lots of stuff i have yet to see.
I'm breeding 3 standard size agouti rex females that carry dwarf, blue, siamese, pink, red and ruby eye recessive traits, and high white recessive traits to my Dwarf Siamese black eyed standard coat male.
Should be some smokin babies from this group, hopefully a fawn dwarf or two :P

Aww fawn dwarf would be so cute. . . So would BEW dwarf, I have a soft spot for BEWS.

I like BEW's a lot which is why I just snagged two Black eyed White girls from my breeding partner, he kept the only solid white female.
Dwarf BEW's would be super cute

Re: Who needs a tail
I've never seen a manx I want one. How hard is it to ship a rat?
-
Not hard just very expensive

Manx? Are you breeding for manx?
If you're breeding for manx and have only gotten 2 in that long, there's probably something wrong with your pairings.

We've produced 5 in 6 months without trying to make them :)
2 didn't make it to weanling stage but the other 3 are doing fantastic.
Shipping rodents is like shipping a dog, vet check, etc. quite expensive for a rodent.
-
A single case of rodents, ships for about $200, plus crate cost, and gas money. :)
-
That's not terrible if you're starting up a really nice colony but a few rats... yeah, that's nuts.

It's also not terrible if you're trying to get a gene that is not available to you.
A bunch of us show breeders just got hairless mice shipped for $75 plus 2 $13 crates.
The cheap shipping was because it was from a lab, so they have deals with airlines and couriers since they ship a lot.
Shipping from another country is where is gets painful. Around $5000 will get you mice from over seas.
