    Motorola Droid release 11/6/09!
    Any one else getting one?

I have been using a crappy free phone for years and I think it is time for an upgrade.

This phone looks great, has a great operating system, and I don't even need to switch carriers!

I pre-ordered one and will be getting it tomorrow!

I want it! I don't have an upgrade until next year though. One of us will most likely get the Droid. I either want that one, or a blackberry. I currently have the LG Voyager, and it's been crapping out on me lately. I heard it was supposed to be the "iPhone killer" This thing sucks compared to the iPhone!

Big Gunns is tired of all these dumb commercials. Until BG sees this phone with his own eyes and hears what everyone has to say about it, BG is sticking with his two soup cans and some string.:D

Yeah. I think this phone will be a top competitor with the iphone. It has a lot of great free apps and it just seems more flexible than the iphone.

I'm on Verizon too, but I'm not sure that the Droid excites me - just yet. I also am using the Voyager, but I've loved mine so far. I am a VIP, so I can upgrade every year, and I can upgrade in February, but not sure yet if I will or not. I usually like to wait until a new device has been out a few months to work out the bugs first and wait for the new software updates to correct the bugs.

Off topic but I've never met anyone else with my phone! Lol...

Robin, does your symbol button work all the time? Mine will double click itself ALL the time and makes using my ' really annoying. I'm not sure if it's just my phone, or if it's the device.

    Re: Motorola Droid release 11/6/09!
I've not had any problems with the symbol button. I actually just cracked my front LCD yesterday somehow, after babying the phone since last Feb. (thank goodness for the insurance) - and got a replacement via UPS today. Both seem to perform the same. I just sometimes hit shift instead of symbol or vice versa.

The Get It Now system was down most of the day Nationwide today, so I had to wait until about 4:30 to add the Back-up Assistant to the new phone and get all my phone contacts onto my phone (I LOVE Verizon's Back-up Assistant, if you ever lose your phone, your contacts are all saved online and easily downloaded to a new phone).

My friend has the voyager and I was playing with it today and I didn't really like it.

Mostly because it doesn't have a capacitive touch screen and you have to bang on it to click anything.

    Re: Motorola Droid release 11/6/09!
I bang on the screen anyways just cuz I'm so used to it. It's unlocked itself in my pocket and purse a few times, so mine doesn't take much force for the touch screen. Thanks for the input Robin, I have insurance on mine, I'll have to take it in maybe.

I didn't know the droid had a qwerty pad... That phone is so awesome. I don't think it will kill the iPhone, but I think alot of people who were thinking about getting the iPhone will probly just get the droid. No point in losing a perfectly good contract for a phone that's just as good.

I wonder how it will do if you drop it though. I've heard that's the one thing people don't like about the iPhone.

Well, the droid is made mostly of metal so it probably won't shatter if you drop it. I don't drop my phone much tho :)

Iphones can take a beating though. They are built rather well.

My friends all have them and they drop them all the time. Mind you not off 2 story buildings or anything. They do fine from a couple feet on to concrete or tile.

You can calibrate the touch on the Voyager to your touch. This one that I have now I'm not going to calibrate, because I actually like the touch setting it came with.

I don't have a problem with it un-locking in my pocket.

I haven't heard too much about the Droid phones at this point.

ALTHOUGH, an upgraded phone is ALWAYS nice, especially since I use mine non stop.

I'm interested in this new DROID system, as well as the 3G phones. e.g. MyTouch.

The Droid uses android 2.0. The mytouch uses the older version.
It is the first phone to use android 2.0

In about a year Android will be everywhere. AT&T has their first Android device coming in January from HTC and another right after. Android 2.0 looks much nicer from what I've seen to the previous version.

The touch system is pretty nice on mine too. I just got this new app that has tiny buttons and I don't have a problem clicking them on my touch screen.

Most of the time it will unlock itself when I have it in my sweater pocket and I lean against a counter. I can feel and hear it unlock so I don't have any problems with it. Occasionally it will unlock in my purse, atm I have a pretty small purse and cram alot of stuff in there, so I'm never surprised. Overall it's not a bad phone, but I do want a droid, lol. I mainly want something that I can fully customize, the voyager doesn't have much room for that.

Android is taking over the cell phone market. I see windows mobile becoming almost non-existent(hopefully, only phone I have owned that had Windows Mobile was a hog on battery and got slow a a snail in two weeks, went back to my palm)

The Droids like a fun phone, but like with any new phone release it will have problems. Just wait a month or two and find out what they are and if you will be able to deal with them until they are fixed.

I traded my iphone 3gs for an HTC Dream a few weeks back, I have now successfully got rid of the crap that is HTC and Android and now have a new iphone, I couldn't stand it. The OS sucks, the iphone is the best phone on the market for personal use and possibly business use as well.

Because Android OS allows applications to run in the background, they need a batter to back it up. People complain about windows mobile, well try Android.. This is only based on 1.5, not 2.0 but watching videos, it doesn't look much different then 1.5, possibly a bit faster.
All of the applications aren't free! It's a myth, the app store is not that good, it has a lot of applications, but it just feels plain cheap. Like a beta OS that should have been tested better before release. The phones get very hot, very quickly, and the battery won't last a day with normal use.
    iPhone for the win.. Again!

I have an HTC Hero through sprint. I came from a mogul (windows based) and I have an IPOD touch and had always wanted an Iphone. I am really happy with the Hero. The amount of programs available is good and I think once everyone gets the droid there will be more. It took some time to get used to the virtural keyboard but not any harder than the ipod touch. It is a battery hog but so is the ipod. I really like it and it hasnt worn on me yet. I still play with it daily and have programs to track diabetic records and facebook and a bunch of other stuff. I have read bad reviews about this phone just like other ones and I just dont see it. I like the android platform and I think it is the future of phones.

Get it while you can early. On Nov 15th Verizon's Early Termination Fee is being ballooned all the way up to $350 per line of service. Yup, that's double what it is now.

I still have my Motorola RAZR V3xx.
Works great even when dropped, thrown, stepped on. I don't have to worry about babying it. I can toss it onto the counter or my desk and not have to worry. :D
A phone is to be able to talk to someone else IMO so I can't see paying all this money for a gadget that has a operating system and features that will be obsolete in less than a year.

    x2

the keyboard looks like there would be a problem typing because the keys look flush with the body of the phone. Might be an issue for someone with bigger fingers to hit 1 key at a time.... Maybe not, iv'e never seen one in person.

Ill stick with my black berry for now :)
If only they made an iphone with an actual keyboard, that would be the best phone ever!

Big Gunns checked out the phone tonight. Big Gunns is gonna wait until the the geeks that gotta have the new phone on the market give BG their opinion on it. BG does listen to what geeks think sometimes.;):D

The only thing BG didn't like is that the US version takes no sim card. BG needs one that does so he can use it on his top secret missions.:D

    Re: Motorola Droid release 11/6/09!
BG, I do agree, no sim card sucks. Then again, my entire family is on verizon so it makes it very easy for me to keep in touch with them without using minutes.

So far so good though. No hiccups to report of. Everything is smooth and snappy. Even though the app selection isn't too great, I have a feeling it will grow exponentially in the next few months, especially with more android phones going on the market.

I am very impressed with this phone. It is much better than the G1. It is a sturdy phone and doesn't feel like its going to fall apart. The hard keyboard is a little tricky, but the on screen keyboard is wonderful. The autocorrect and predictive words are great tools.
