things like that really make me wish people would educate themselves before running around telling people that they're holding a dangerous animal, THAT could cause a panic.
on the note of the original post...
i've brought my ball python into my imaging lab to photograph her. people knew in advance about it and still came and were scared, some wanted to touch her and a few even held her and helped me take the pictures so it wasn't all bad.

Hi All:D
Thought I'd share an updated pic with you. I took Samson back to work today to show my guys, they can't believe how much he's grown.... some of them still dashed to hide in the toilet though.....

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
Wow, what on earth are you feeding this guy? He's HUGE!
I have taken my juvie BP to work once. I used to take my adult BP outside for a walk every now and then. He loved it. I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so i can take them out together.
-
Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
Samson is a machine, he weighs just under 1000g, and he was about 200g when I got him. So he's put on an average of about 100g per month since I got him.
He's my failsafe, if my smaller balls don't eat their mice then he gets them, waste not want not. He'd probably get somewhere in the region of 2-3 mice worth each week and if all my other balls eat up then he gets a juicy rat....

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
I just really dont like drawing extra attention to myself. So I keep my stuff on the DL. Plus you have the whole shock factor sometimes with some people with snakes. I get that enough with my APBT's when theyre in public but people always find it halarious that a tiny toy poodle is house mates with the APBT's.

APBT's  Hey I'm foreign:rolleye2:

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
I took my first BP Selene to work on Halloween (she was my costume :D I was the "crazy snake guy" lol) and we got some great reactions. Only one girl refused to go near her but just about everyone in the office held her and she was an angel the entire time.

Not trying to change the OP topic but I want to correct this quick. They are not "hated" exclusivly because of "fighting" issue. The are [correct word]feared for many incorrect reasons , such as aggression towards other dogs or people which is mostly myth when any type of dog is properly socialized. Also for a k9 breed to be recognized by the ABA they have to pass a stringent temperament test to which the APBT was more likely to asess a situation instead of just reacting than many of your common household "family" dogs.

Yup, I know the dog. We unfortunately have had 2 instances recently where people have been attacked by pit bulls. It's a shame that people exploit this trait in these animals:colbert:
Awesome pics there, thanks....

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
We took all our snakes to both my sons' schools. Always for show-and-tell. We take the vivarium too. My 2nd grade son did the show-and-tell all by himself (my husband and I and my 5-year-old were props). He was GREAT! Nothing he said was inaccurate! But then, he knows these snakes better than I do. So, my 5-year-old joined him in the question and answer portion while my husband held the bigger snake for petting. I was holding the poster board... It was awesome because they got questions like, "do they eat people?", and my 5-year-old answers, "they don't fit in their mouths, silly!".
Then last week, my 5-year-old had his show-and-tell. So we did the same thing and my 5-year-old was supposed to do the show. It was scheduled for 15 minutes. He is in a montessori school so his class goes from 3-year-olds to 6-year-olds. Well, we set up the display 30 minutes before the show-and-tell and the whole school went on a riot because they don't get to see the snakes, so the principal decided to put all the classes together for the show-and-tell... there were 60+ kids there! My 5-year-old got intimidated so I did the show instead... the thing lasted for OVER AN HOUR! The really funny thing is all the kids were super excited and wanted to touch the snakes and everything while the teachers were scared. They jump out of their chairs everytime a kid gets too close to my older son who was holding the snake! We weren't prepared for so many kids, so it was a major disappointment that we couldn't let them touch the snakes. We only have 2 touchable snakes - the hognose is hissy, so might scare the kids, so he's just a "display" one. 60 kids for 2 snakes, I didn't feel comfortable with that... too much stress for the snakes, so we had to very politely tell everybody sorry!!! Ohhh... they were soooo disappointed you can just see the slump on their shoulders.
Oh, one crazy thing, one of the students asked, "does the ball python feel the same as the hognose?", and my 7-year-old said, "no, they are very different, the ball python is smooth while the hognose is keeled"... I'm thinking to myself, "killed? what in the world did my son just say?"... after the show-and-tell, I asked him why he said the hognosed got killed and he shook his head (ahh, 7-year-olds!) and said, "mom! keeled, like rough and dull and such...", I asked him to spell it and I still didn't know KEEL is an adjective. I only know it as a verb (tilted) or a noun (ship). I looked it up in the dictionary, and sure enough, there is no KEEL that means rough... So, I asked him where did you see that word? So he whips out his encyclopedia, Snakes of the Southeast by Gibbons and Dorcas, showed the page on hognoses and sure enough, it says Scales: KEELED. Now, how the heck did I not know that??? And why doesn't it appear in my Webster Dictionary?
Okay, back on topic, the hognose was a Christmas present to my son, so Christmas Eve, my husband had to work, so he had to pick up the snake from the store at lunchtime because they are only open until noon. So he had to bring it to work - it was too cold in the car, so he had to sneak it into his office... the crazy snake got into a HISSY FIT everytime somebody comes close to my husband's desk so it got out he had a snake... he thought he was gonna get in big trouble but everybody was cool about it... hissing and all.
Man, I should change my name to Long-Winded.

theres one picture on my website under exotics, its not a very good one though.
GOOD NEWS, aspen is coming back to campus with me today for another photoshoot. Its a group project and it is "survivor" themed (the show), so they thought having a real snake added to the mix would be awesome. She's pretty popular among people who know her, other people are put off because shes 6 inches around or more, and over 3 feet long.

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
I take my snakes to work all the time...I work at a natural pet store. The employees love em', and the customers get a close up and personal educational experience. It's really cool because some people who have never touched a snake before can hold one, and after they hold it, they see they're not these monsters, and have a new viewpoint....."...snakes are not so bad after all..." I love the oppotunity to educate people on snakes!

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
Well, not exactly. Probably in another store....becasue the store I work in does not sell pets. Just food, toys, treats, clothes, etc. It's 75% dog stuff, with a focus on healthy natural and organic products, mixed in with the outrageous stuff like doggie treadmills, dog gps locator systems, dog strollers, and $100 bags of dog food.

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
I've taken one of mine a few times. The Herp Vet is around the corner from the office. I live about 30 miles from work so the back and forth doesn't work out.
I got snake off Craigs list and once I got it home I noticed wheezing so off to the vet we went!
In any case we had to make 3 trips and the snake came to the office and hung out each day.
I have an office and only showed my employees (because they had expressed interest before) and a couple of friends. Everyone was cool about it. I was discreet around those I thought would freak....
I have one of those inexpensive plastic cages and a heating pad. Works okay for that situation.

Re: Have you taken your BP to work or anywhere else?
My snakes are actually kept at work. I work in a tattoo shop so my co-workers/boss don't really mind. I have them in our "employee lounge" in our basement. I'd bring them home but my 1 roomate thinks they'll escape and kill him.
