steve irwin needs to come back and give barr a lesson in "man up 101"!
steve wouldnt send anyone else in to get the snake's head, nah, he'd just aim and launch himself on it and pop up going "crikey! he's a cheeky fella. look at him trying to eat me!"
oh & we cant all forget his "danger, danger, danger!"

barr aint got crap on the dangers of being a wildlife conservationist. in fact i'm sure he'd crap himself if he ever faced off with steve-o's croc named graham, the one that he's chasing around in his movie.

heres a vid of the great steve-o's most embarrassing moments

Animal Planet is pretty much a HSUS PETA channel now for animal rights radicals. Anything that is not a mainstream pet(i.e. a dog or cat) is villified and presented as too dangerous to be allowed to be owned by ANYONE at ANY time.

In addition, there's the ton of shows that villify any owner of more than one dog or a dog and a cat. Anyone owning exotics is some whack-job who screams about satan or wants to kiss cobras to feel the thrill. Never mind all of the responsible owners of geckos or the people who own venomous because they respect and love the animals.

The instant they started up with the ridiculous lying garbage that is Whale Wars, I shut it down. It was sliding downhill quickly, but that just put the last nail in the coffin.

Python Hunters is AWESOME. I mean, you can't help but love a tv show that the main people on it are members here and have been in the reptile world so long and been so available to everyone for advice and talk! Micheal Cole is one of the two people who made me really love ball pythons! None of the three fuss about getting bitten, they all throw themselves into helping the animals and the environment, while making it clear they love keeping the reptiles!

More of it, and less of the sensationalized lies and animal rights thinly veiled media campaign would be nice. Won't happen, but it'd be nice.

I think the "man-eating super snake" was to be a hybrid between the Burms and the rock python :D "Something straight out of science fiction" was the running quote. Apparently, a rock python was found somewhere between the Everglades and Miami back in... the '80s? I don't remember now, but it was a while ago. Then another was found in 2005. So, obviously, there is now an invasion of he rock python here in the Everglades :O I quit watching after the second commercial break.

I've lived here my whole life, and have spent well over a decade going out to all parts of the Everglades, finding my own secret spots and going into places no one has set foot on in decades - I have found panther tracks, evidence of bears (seen one up in Ocala, too), hogs, some scarce bugs, and even a Burm or two. Never have I seen a rock python, and if they're out there in such "great numbers," I think I would have found one by now. I'm not saying that just because I haven't seen them, there aren't any - and other exotic species intentionally or accidentally released out there - but the possibility of a SyFy super-snake happening suddenly? Get real.

AP's shows can be crumpled up and thrown in the garbage pail like so much bad writing. They're a joke.

Actually, they said the rocks were in a 6 square mile area of Miami near the Everglades. They found a nest and they found some babies. So they are worried that the Rocks are spearding and will eventually be like the Burms if nothing is done. I am fine with that. That's a true concern. I just don't like the scare tactic approach the show took.

Did they find a nest? Maybe I didn't make it far enough in the show. Still, though that would undoubtedly be a potential threat, it's not quite as immediate as they wanted it to be. From what I saw, they seemed to want to make people believe that the monster hybrid could happen tomorrow. I admit I shut it off out of frustration, so maybe I missed something.

Did they find the nest recently, by the way? If by Miami they meant the actual city, and not the whole county (Miami-Dade), that would put the rocks somewhere near Shark Valley or the Chekika area, or thereabouts.

I agree completely. I look forward to that show each week more than anything. Those three men make me love the reptile community even more than I already do. :)

Re: Good lord, no wonder people are so afraid of snakes...
Yea that show was bad, it was a total scare tactic, they were pumping the fear factor for ratings, plus I thought there had never been a confirmed case of someone being eaten by a snake. Besides look at the how dangerous domestic dog breeds can be, how many children and adults are killed every year by pet dogs? It all comes down to people just being responsible, if someone is hurt it is probably not the snakes fault, it is almost always the persons fault. And people releasing pets are not the main cause of the python everglades invasion, it was hurricane Andrew and the reptile importers warehouse that blew down in the storm releasing thousands upon thousands of snakes into florida... But that doesn't jive with their agenda to curtail our right to own reptiles, so they will conveniently ignore the facts and continue the scare mongering to mold the publics perception of our community into something more "politically correct" and in line with the "mainstream"
