This, right here. I have had so many people tell/ask me about my BP eating my kitties.
I appreciate anyone with a reptile appreciation, I seem to find snake people everywhere I go nowadays (Like the girl who cut my hair last time.). But I looove finding people who are scared but curious. My favorite was getting the Petsmart manager to touch her when the first time he saw her he wouldn't get within 10 feet, but he kept saying how pretty she was. Awesome :D

Haha funny happenings last night at work. A male coworker of mine (who has been through veterinary school and is now looking for some kind of internship program) who knows I have a snake asked how it was doing last night. I told him loki is doing great, growing nice a fast for me. he then expressed his concern that I should be careful not to keep him in a large enclosure because snakes grow to the size of their enclosure and he could eventually eat me...he then cited the problem large snakes in the everglades. I just kind of chuckled and tried to set his fears to rest that those are bermese, retics, rocks, and other much larger species than my ball python. He obviously wasn't swayed in his beliefs. I wonder why he's having a problem finding a vet job? :p

Well good. Your BP helps you quickly weed out the ones you wouldn't get along with anyway.
You have one. I have a room full of them and 30 to 40 eggs incubating right now. Don't know why the women I meet never say anything negative about them. Most go "Wow! Cool!" and tell their friends about it.
My MALE friends often say that I better get rid of them or girls won't like me...

That is strange, it could be a matter of perception. If you have a large amount of adults and clutches, it could be seen as a successful occupation, or a secondary income. With one or two someone who doesn't like reptiles may think "why? There's no reason to have a snake for a pet.." a couple have told me they just didn't see a point to it because they couldn't show affection like a dog or cat, so they can't make a good pet. (their words not mine, and obviously this opinion is shared by reptile haters of both genders) but it's kind of hard to look at something that potentially brings in money as "pointless".

Re: shout out to the ladies :p
I was once upon a time that use to say those words of "eww" "yuck" or "gross". I was dating my boyfriend that loves all kinds of animals. And he and I dated for about a year before he came out and said he want a snake. I was responded asking "why? They're slimy and dangerous!" Of course I tried to tell him no or I wouldn't come over kind of answer. But he wouldn't listen and got one anyways. Circumstances change of course because now we own 30+ snakes, a boa, savannah monitor and dogs and a cat. So have the right way of introducing them and maybe they'll come around too like I did

Re: shout out to the ladies :p
I got lucky with my SO. He loves my snakes and is encouraging me to get a crested gecko at the upcoming show. I think he may have even cried a bit when my leopard gecko was put down last week. I've actually educated him a lot on snake care and he even helped put together my newest tub set ups using an old bookshelf. It was a great bonding experience for us.
Though I have no shortage of people freaking out over my snakes. My coworkers are fascinated by them. When I worked at a pet store I can't tell you how hilarious it was for me, a twenty something female, to hold a hatchling bp and have grown men be completely scared off. They would actually walk around me to avoid the snake. Women, unfortunately, grow up in a society that instills in them "pink is for girls, dolls are for girls, ew bugs" So I'm not surprised it's hard to find a SO who appreciates reptiles. Most of it is just being uneducated, and there's nothing wrong with that. Once you present the facts and the animal in a lighthearted fashion I've learned people are more likely to break from their shells and start asking questions. The main one being "is it slimey?" ;)

Myself and my now 19 and 12 year old daughters wanted a snake for years but my husband used 4 letter words to express his displeasure. Finally, after a bit of research and showing how BPs do not grow big, how gentle they are and that they don't a lot of space, he relented. He said he won't ever touch "it", feed "it" or clean "it's" tank. 3 years later, we are all happy with Monty.

I think it has more to do with culture and individuals. Honestly I have never met any women who didn't think they were cool. If it were just about money (if at all), I wouldn't expect them to take an interest in them. For example, after one saw my animals she dragged me to the next reptile expo. She wanted to get a gecko there.
Also when I go to reptile shops I always see girls there looking at reptiles, more guys than girls yes, but plenty of girls love them.
One other thing is perhaps you half expect them to not like snakes, so subconciously when you mention them you are almost apologizing for having them. I LOVE my snakes and will start talking about them (perhaps too) enthusiastically to anyone who would listen. I honestly have NEVER had anyone, male or female, ask me "why". The vast majority of people think my reptiles are absolutely fascinating. When I take my tegu out for a walk, people, both guys and girls come over to talk and ask to take a picture with him. People in my neighbourhood (restaurant owners, the people at the hardware store, the security guard at my building (who happens to be a girl), the people working at the supermarket etc. would see me, and say "Hey! How's your lizard doing?" etc. There was on the news recently a water monitor loose seen nearby, and everyone would ask me "Is that the same kind as yours?" etc.

Heh. I am this way too. I just start talking about my fur and scale babies and if you don't wanna hear it you better stop me or you'll know their life stories :D My BP is a favorite for some friends to take snake selfies with.

Plus, the excitement when you finally find someone who IS curious about them is great. We have a friend who doesn't like pets, just never saw the point of them... But he fell in love with our snakes, and wants one from our first clutch.
Hi fellow maritimer! I know what you mean about meeting and talking to someone that likes snakes - you can't stop. I get some pretty crazy reactions here as well. My brother (among others) have asked if I am scared of either my little boa or my two year old ball getting out at night and what would happen. I am concerned but not for the reasons that they are thinking - the snakes not going to kill my family, just hide somewhere and I won't be able to find them. In some ways society is so backwards, too many people have watched too many bad snake movies or are dwelling on the nasty stories in the media. It's hard to get the message across but I try hard and I have won some people over including my wife (now the argument is that she thinks the ball is prettier than the boa - I disagree with her but, oh well...).
