In gym class we have to run the mile (had gym last semester so I don't have it anymore) and the best I've done was 10:50min on it. One kid who runs a lot got like 6mins and somethin seconds. Definitely a quick runner, and never stopped for a quick walk.

Re: How many days a week do you workout?
I just got back into excersing, and trying to lose a little weight. My goal was to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks (I didn't want anything too lofty). Well, three weeks in and I am down 10 pounds. So now I am a bit greeday, and I want another 8. That would put me at 165 and 5'11". When I got back from my second tour in Afghanistan, I was 157. I don't want to get back to that low weight, but 165 would be good.
Right now, I am just doing cardio 3 times a week, and crunches, push ups, dips and pull ups 5 days a week. Once I get down to 168, I am going to start lifting again. That will be a 5x per week routine, with 1 day of cardio in there for a total of 6 days per week training. When I started trying to get back in shape (3 weeks ago), I started by running 2 miles per day, and I was clocking 9:30 miles. I just recently went back up to 3 miles, and I clocked 8:30 minute miles average, so I'd say I improved pretty quickly in 3 weeks. My best run times were 5 years ago, when I was averaging 7 minute miles (I was never a runner).
Good luck to everyone, and that is my story.

I wish!!!! My profile pic and pics on facebook must be deceiving-lol. My wife is also only like 5'2 so I look tall standing next to her :D Being short makes for a power house in lifting but I would love to be tall and be able to tower over people and have that reach advantage.

Well it seems your doing really well Tim!!! You'll lose that other 8 lbs in no time I bet. But once you start lifting at 168 and start putting on some muscle you will have to really watch what you eat if you want to stay at that weight. And an 8:30 a min. mile for 3 miles is a GREAT average. If I run more then 1 mile my average always goes up. If I hit the first mile in 10:30 the second will take longer then the first and the third will usually take longer then the second. You are doing good!!! Keep up the good work and post on your progress!!!

Re: How many days a week do you workout?
I'm at 3 times a week right now.
I start with 10 minute cardio warm-up then 1 - 1 1/2 hours weight training, then on my cardio days I'll follow that up with 30-60 minutes of cardio, typically 30 minutes on the stair machine.
I need to kick it up a bit, but I'm taking baby steps now. I used to run (I'm also a large framed "clydesdale-type") so I got to 9 minute miles when I ran the Bolder Boulder 10k. After I achieved my goal of running the BB I gave running up and went more toward weight training. My body type puts on muscle very easily.
My (secret) goal is to get into fitness modeling once I trim down some more. I've only been hard at the weight training for 4 months now. Although I've only lost 5 lbs, but I know I've transfered A LOT of fat into muscle.

Re: How many days a week do you workout?
Since 1-11-10 I have been working out 6 days a week. My fiance and I have been doing the Insanity program (Beachbody). I will be 50 this year and unfortunately have been less and less active (no excuse). This program really kicked my ass and has gotten me into an all around better & healthier shape. I have lost 3 inches off the waist and probably 8-10 lbs.. I know this will probably sound korny but . . . before I started this I couldn't hold my breath for 30 seconds. Now I can do over a minute and not even breathe hard afterward. Plus, my diet has completely changed! (Which has a lot to do with the weight loss)
We have 2 more weeks after this week and plan on starting P90X. I'm not a big fan of health clubs and do not have much room for weights or machines at the house so this should fit in fine . . .
