Not that ANY of you care!!! But....
Ive been on a total "health" kick lately. Sick of being out of breath, embarrassed, yadda yadda yadda about my weight.

I have always been really self conscience since High School when I was 250...

Well....about two and a half weeks ago I weighed myself at 216lbs.

Yesterday, because I dont like to watch the scale everyday...I weighed myself at 201lbs.

Im so excited! I have noticed a 3" increase in my arms and a 2" decrease in my waist!

So sorry for blabbing, but I gots to tell someone!

    Congrats dude.

I myself have gotten much bigger and cut since quiting smoking.

    I think it's because of a higher calorie / protein intake. :)

    Good job!!!

    Right in time for summer.

I don't care.... thanks for making me feel bad Pat. I'm still over 230 with a big gut and get out of breath easily. I'm pathetic and have no more self esteem. :tears::tears::tears::tears:

I think I could starve myself for a year and maybe lose a couple of ounces. Ah, heck with it. I'm going out for Pizza and fried chicken.

    (seriously though, congratulations :gj::gj::gj:)

I have been wanting to lose some weight as well for the same reasons, once I move I am hoping to get a fresh start on eating right. :)

Ahhrgh, you make me feel bad... i have been used to be in good shape until 2 years ago, doing triathlon (finished an ironman and a lot of mid distance competitions), running (8 marathons and 15 half marathons) and sometimes got caught by the pumping iron virus (I LOVE SQUATS), went boxing and all that stuff.... but since 2 years i am as lazy as can be... need to get myself on the sportsroad again... (have not gained that much weight, but i do not feel that tight and fit like i used to)

    I'm cutting to 150 for a jiu-jitsu competion. I feel ya.

Skip the carbs except pre/post workout. Veggies and protein every three hours.

Ive really just been watching my Calorie intake, and following an exercise routine.

I do not have a membership to a gym so I researched "weightless" workouts.

AMAZING. I also found this link (of course cant find it now) for workouts that old Roman Gladiators used to use.

I estimated my calorie intake before I started all this to about 3500-4000 (sometimes more) a day....thats a lot.

I am shooting for a 1500-2500 intake now. Not once have I felt hungry, starved, or malnourished.

I dont have a pool, and I HATE ocean swimming. Surfing gets my heart going, but not nearly as long as it should.

Smoking definitely isnt helping my situation either.

1500-2500 is probably a really good number for someone of your body size.

You might check out Matt Fury. I did his "hindu squats" and "hindu pushups" for quite a while, they are pretty intense.

You're gonna have a california beach bod in no time!

The only problem with the "300" workout I have is, not everyone has access to that kind of equipment, lbs, or motivation.

I really dont want to become "muscley" and not be able to scratch my but. In fact seeing some of those people is quite disgusting LOL. I just want to be fit and in shape.

congrats Pat. its not easy, but you'll get there. And you know you'll have a support team here for ya.

I need to do more exercise myself, all this lovely flab build up from having kids, but by the time I'm doing racing after them I'm too pooped to do a better routine for myself :rolleye2: although I am taking a step in the right direction.. I ordered that 10 minute trainer by Tony Horton. something, anything to motivate me. :D besides, Elmocize just doesn't quite cut it. :P

There are some exercises that need no equipment at all and some just need cheap weights, but what I love about this "training-philosophy" is the intensity AND that you train useable strength, other than these "testosterone and growth hormone" doped body building monsters, who get out of breath if they need to carry two bags of grocery in the fifth floor.
I tried to convert these strategies to my regular gym training back then and got some strange looks, sweating and screaming, but the results spoke for themselfs.

It's finally getting to be good weather season and I'm going to get back to doing stuff outside.

I totally hibernate during the winter months here in MN.. except I don't fast like bears do.

Time to get back to running, swimming, biking, and fishing.

I want to get into musky fishing. Tossing around double cowgirls for a day is a SERIOUS workout.

Good job Patrick! Starting this week I gave up 99% of my soda take in and 50% of my junk food take in (I love Junk food, I'll have to wean myself off that). Tonight I bought a $30 gallon Brita container to help back that up. For men specifically giving up soft drinks and sugary drinks in general can make a world of difference so I figured why not.

Congrats! I'm trying to get back in shape too, got down to 170 last summer, but it was too small for my sport. Needed to gain some weight, and it got a tiny bit out of control when the season was over and hit 190ish. New team, time to get back in shape! We should start a Get Buff thread for the guys, haha.

Do it now! If you wait too long it just gets harder. I started trying to lose about a year ago, I have gone from 264 down to 221. My goal is 190. It has been a constant fight. When I was your age I could work out and it would fall off. Now that I'm in my fifties it is more of a struggle. But when I goof up, I pick myself up and start again.

Patrick, that's a great weight loss! Mike and I have been talking about doing something about our own weight. It's so easy once you've had kids, hit your 40's and are married to just sort of let things slide a bit that way but it's important for our kids that Mike and I are around as long as possible and the extra weight won't encourage that. I think we'll just start with biking or walking and I'll start cooking with less fat (gawd Mike will fuss about that, the man loves his gravy! LOL) and just see how it goes. We don't have the kind of lifestyle that allows for gym workouts but heck I think the old fashioned concept of "eat less, move more" is a good one.

Keep up the good work Pat! :)

Grats Pat. I am actually starting to exercise too. I put an exercise bike in my room to make sure that I use it everyday. I gained around 30 pounds after quitting smoking. 2 words Pat...Rat Hockey. Play goalie and you play for free, noone charges a goalie, all the players will be gratefull to shoot at you, and you will drop weight faster than anything else available.

The only downside is you will suffer real pain in shots on goal BUT you can at least take your shirt off in public and not feel embarassed.

    This is FACT!

hey congrats pat, that is great news that you are taking your health seriously. so many people don't realize this is the only body you get... no refunds or exchanges... this is IT. the cells in your body... are yours to keep. so taking the best possible care of them is essential.

i've released a few pounds myself in the last while and am a much happier mama... amazing what you can do at 1/2 the body weight.

keep up the good work and remember... if you are hungry... eat something raw and real. veggies and fruit are your friend!!! (not the kind of friend you want to keep forever... the kind you wanna eat, digest and flush away) kinda like earl!
