Readings on Thermostat placed in between UTH and glass tank off
Hey guys. I just installed a new heat pad and placed the probe from my thermometer(Herpstat Basic 1) in between the glass tank and the UTH with gorilla tape. However, the herpstat is telling me that the tempature is 110 degrees while my thermostat(Acurite) is telling me that its 90 degrees in the tank. Can anyone tell me why there is this discrepancy or if my setup is wrong? Thanks!

I think you got the words thermostat and thermometer switched... Thermostat is your Herpstat. Acurite is the thermometer and hygrometer that only measures ambient temp, it doesn't measure the direct surface.

If it's glass, there will be a bigger difference in temps between the UTH and the glass, but you won't know the temperature of the surface of the glass unless you get a temp gun. The ambient temperature in your tank can be 90, but the surface of the glass directly above the heat pad could already be 100 degrees, which is too hot and can burn your snake.

If even your acurite is reading 90 degrees, I would turn down your thermostat for the heat pad to 98 degrees for now. The ambient temperature doesn't need to be that high to begin with. Only the hot spot (the glass directly above the heat pad) should be around 90 degrees, and it should be cooler in other areas of the tank.

Temp gun like this is needed: https://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Lase...words=temp+gun

Yeah i switched them up by accident. The acurite is measuring my hot side and cool side. The device is on the surface on the hot side right under the hot spot and the probe is on the cool side. I did some tampering with the setup and now the herpstat is reading 93.5 which is the goal tempature i set it for and the acurite is reading 85.5. So what should i do in this situation

That sounds much better, but would still need a temp gun to monitor the temperature of the glass surface above the heat pad. It is important for your snake, since they lay their bodies on the surface, not the air. If the surface is too hot, it can be dangerous. And if it's too cold, that's not good either. So a temp gun is needed so that you're not just doing guesswork.

The Acurite won't measure the temperature of the glass surface, only the air/ambient temperature, whether it's sitting right on top of the heat pad or not.

There are AcuRite thermometers which have probes to measure surface temperature. If this is what you've got, then you're probably good to go. An infrared thermometer is never a bad purchase though.
