Is it ethical to work at a large chain pet store if you know the animals are poorly cared for and there is very little you can do about it? Do you refuse to work there? Do you work there and try your best to make a positive impact? Or do you push feelings aside, do what you're told, and make a living, understanding that the situation is out of your hands?

If I had the option of working at a chain pet store like petsmart, I would take the job and try to educate customers and employees. Even if the impact is small, its still doing something good for the animals.

a little over a year ago I didnt have a job for about six months.. One day at petco I think it was I saw a sign saying now hiring reptile specialist. I actually said that may not be so bad to get me thru. Then I had to think. Doesnt matter how much you know or that youve owned reptiles for 20 years, like I have. What matters is what they want you to teach. And if you vary from that. your not keeping that job. I talked to the assistant manager who knew me from another forum I frequent. And he even said he couldnt hire me. He knows I wouldnt follow policy about what is supposed to be said. I would follow what I get caught now walking thru the store telling customers. After the "specialist" gave them not so great information.

I'm in Canada and we have a chain up here called Petcetra, I picked up some feeders a few times when I was in a pinch. Got to talking to an employee and made the mistake of mentioning that the mice were for my BP. Now I'm black booked and they wont even sell me a bag of cat food. The other major chain up here Petland you have to go through a 2 hour adoption process for a 4 dollar mouse. lol

Any way you can get a hand on that policy? I would like to see what they are telling their employees :/

I just don't understand how the executives of petsmart can sleep at night with policies like that. I only wish i had 10 bucks to pay for a mouse to buy one as a pet and walk out after naming it dinner. While on the subject though they do sell crickets that are live huh amazing just because its a mammal it can't be food. Sorry Im just having one of those days.
lol my mice are named Dinner & Dessert they are my breeders

    Re: petsmart

Me and my girlfriend had to go 'adopt' a mouse (since they don't 'sell them') from petsmart because the other stores were closed. They were like 'oh you picked such a cute one do you have all the supplies?' We just smiled and said we had everything we needed haha.
