I use a layer of PAPER TOWEL covered by aspen shavings in my tank. in the hide with the UTH beneath, I move most of the aspen out of the way leaving a very thin layer(basically just scattered) this leaves the paper towel exposed and I set my Thermostat to 93 and my probe reads around 91-92 depending on the time of day.
