Exactly what I suggested in the first place. lol. www.outwaterplastics.com You can find metal or plastic there. Of course the plastic is much cheaper and actually preferred by most.

I'm not sure if you know this, but real glass is much cheaper than plexi or acrylic. I would not think for a second about putting anything less that 1/4" plexi or acrylic in those cages......they will escape.

As far as the heat lamps go, I'd have to agree about the fire hazard. You can remedy this by using a rheostat or thermostat. A 60W lightbulb in an inclosed area can heat up to nearly 300 degrees.

Re: here we go building a 4 cage rack

this is all true but if i get good ventilation i should be fine I THINK I HOPE SO as for as plexi when i make my door frams i cut a 1/8'" rove then slide the plexy in and make sure its a tight fit then i seal it . i know snakes are strong and can break tanks but im not to worried about the doors since i make them really well built. . this is all trial and error what i mess up on i can always fix. all in all I'm learning more and more.

i wish i could afford the U tracks with 1/4 lexan. which is 200 times stronger than glass. shoot plexiglass is 100 times stronger than glass

we'll see what happens ill keep a close eye out on temps in the hood area. i did leave the back of the hoods open for ventilation but if i have to ill cut holes on the sides and put vents on there too. and maybe a small fan in the vent if i can find something like that

thanks for the advice i really take it to heart and it has changed some of my thinking about somethings and things to watch out for. i got some good ideas if heat becomes a problem

Re: here we go building a 4 cage rack

hmmm really didn't do alot today mostly ran around getting hardware and picking out hardware and could never make up my mind. at first i wanted brass then couldn't match the hinges to the locks and handles. so i decided on going with polished stainless then couldn't match hinges to that. then i figured out that i would just go with the stainless and paint the hinges so thats what im doing but i did do some wood working i cut all the door frames and did all thing things i needed to do to put the plexi in the frames

    pics

heres how i hold the plexi in place

i cut a grove with the table saw and have the blade height set to 3/8"
