Not sure. The 2 companies combined will equal 133,000 employees and supposedly they'll trim to under 100k just for starters. The quote was that the amount will be "unpresidented". The R&D facility i work for has many duplicate areas of the other company.
Watching the news yesterday . Its bad all over the US.

Thanks, for the words of wisdom

I’m not exactly sure what your area of expertise is. And while the economy is in the crapper, there are industries out there that are growing.

Depending on what your skills are, check out Openwater.com. TransOcean is growing by leaps and bounds and over the next three years they have four new builds going out. Big money in off shore right now, and there are jobs opening up for everything from roustabout to rockhound. If you are in a technical field, chemistry or such, you may check out some of the Mudlogging companies.

I had a buddy that got hurt in Iraq a few years ago, had two percent mobility in his left arm and got a job as a mudlogger, a year later he is making 96k a year.
    Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs
"Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident."

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy."

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."

    Re: Bummin'

Thanks for the info Typical 08. I am an AF veteran 88-92 (LE specialist, IRAQ 1). When i got out i landed a job here in R&D(chemistry dept) where i've been for 18yrs. Something in Homeland Sec. is a viable option. Will be tough going back to shift work and holidays but ya gotta do what ya gotta do...

    Thanks
