Yeah I love my bumble bee, he actually is pretty browned out compared to what he was for the 1st year I had him.
He's a stud breeder too, I think he'd hump your leg if you let him.

Great shots, snakes and girls alike!
If I am correct, I see those big diffuser things in the reflections in the snakes eyes....What type of lighting set up are you using?

Great snakes and pictures!! What shutter speed are you using to get nice, clear pictures when the snakes won't stay still?

Awesome photos of the snakes(and the girl too!) I love snake photos. Your snakes are awesome. The piebald is the best. I know they're expensive but I want one! LOL

Those are indeed the studio lights you see in the eyes (which if I wasn't in a hurry would have spent more time tweaking to get better light).
I use Alien Bees http://www.alienbees.com/ Fantastic lights for the money, used by beginners and longtime professionals alike.
I used those this time around because I had them on hand, my wife wanted some photo's taken of her and our Pug. Normally when photographing at home I use my Canon Speedlites and don't bother setting up the larger studio lights.

When taking pictures using external flashes the shutter speed doesn't have much of anything to do with stopping motion. It's the lights themselves that have that effect.
Also your camera is limited to how fast of shutter speed you can use with flashes. With my Canon 5D the fastest shutter speed I can use is 1/200th sec. Even though the camera without using any flash has a shutter speed up to 1/8000th a sec.
But with or without a flash I wouldn't go below 1/60th a sec. unless your camera holding skills are great and the snake is not moving.
