Yeah I don't think a regular herpstat can handle a UTH and a bulb/CHE even if they're in the same power outlet because they don't "communicate" well

Nope- not the Herpstat ND, but the Herpstat II can

    Re: thermostats

Provide a second hide, possibly get rid of the half log since it's not very secure...

Maybe insulate the back and sides of the tank or cover it with black paper so the snake feels more secure.

    Re: thermostats

    I would do the following:
    - 2 hides of the same type; one for the cool side and one for the warm side. This will permit the snake to thermoregulate properly and not need to choose between security and thermoregulation. Also, the log hides are fairly open and large. You could either buy smaller hides or make hides from the bottom of planters, small and non-see-through plastic containers, etc. Just cut them a door
    - I would insulate the sides and back of the tank with a dark material. I live in a cold place and so I use the pink rigid insulation. Others have used dense foam board or cork board.
    - I would cover the lid with foil and duct tape to help keep the humidity in.
    - I would ditch the towel because it harbors bacteria and also draws the moisture back out of the tank as the towel dries.
    - I would not use the lamp and instead use a CHE as this will not zap your humidity so badly.

With a CHE and a UTH you'll need either two thermostats or one Herpstat II.
The other route you can choose would be to make a wooden top for the tank and use a radiant heat panel and no other heat source. This means you could get by on one thermostat but you would have the initial monetary outlay for the RHP: http://www.reptilebasics.com/RBI-Rad...p-1-c-283.html

Yeah just covering up the back, sides, and maybe part of the top with good insulating material will help.

A CHE won't give off light, so you can leave that on for 24hrs. If you have a light it MUST be turned off at night.

    Re: thermostats

okay things are taking a turn for the better i just purchased a CHE but its a 100w so im going to wait till my thermostat gets here to hook it up. so that means i also purchased a thermostat and i purchased some cypress bedding also. tonight after work i will be putting duct tape and tinfoil over the top of my tank the only thing is i need different hides...i have a box and i think its good size might be too big but we will see i will have to make due with one hide for now but next time i feed my snake i will get two i will just use the box the mice come in so that makes things easier. and i need to put some insulation things around the tank any suggestions on easy to find cheap products...i have spent far more then i thought i would of spent on this snake so it better not die on me. but yeah all i need now is some insulation around my tank suggestions appreciated. thank you again all for puttin up with my...noobness? lol
