    Herpstat only has three outlets!

    Hi guys,
I just ran into a huge problem... My herpstat nd only has three spots to plug in my heat tape! I know.. I should've bought the grounded one... I didn't string all my heat tape together, and it's too late now, so could i just use multiple extension cords to make more spots to plug in more heat tape? i need to plug in 6 strips. They are all 20 watts per foot, and are 1 foot each, and the herpstat nd can withstand up to 600 watts so im fine as far as wattage goes... So let me know, since each extension cord has three outlets on each female end i was thinking of buying 2 extension cords..

-2 strips plugged in on the herpstat 1 ext. cord plugged into it
-2 strips plugged into that ext. cord 1 ext. cord plugged into that
-2 strips plugged into the last ext. cord with one left over spot

Do You Think This Will Work?

Yea just use extension cords, this is one of the reasons I always tell people to just zigzag heat rope or flexwatt it's just more practical unless your going to do different temps on different shelves. The extension cords won't matter as long as you don't exceed the max wattage of the Herpstat, I think it's 500w so you should be good.

The wattage is the important thing. Keep track of the totals for each strip of flexwatt and make sure you're nowhere near 500w and you're good.

Instead of extension cords, though, I would use the outlet extenders. You know, the little 'boxes' with three outlets on one plug. They're more direct to the original power source. That's what I use on my Herpstat with 5, soon to be 8, UTH pads plugged into it.

    Thanks for the replies guys,
And yea, each strip is 1 foot each, and the wattage is 20 watts per foot. So all the heat tape together comes out to 120 watts! So im definately good as far as wattage goes.

    Again, thanks for the replies!

Worse comes to worse you could always splice the wires and wire all the flexwatt together, but i'd only think if you want to make it permement.

or you could get a strip outlet. Plug it into the herpstat and then all the flexwatt into the strip outlet.

I say that's the best option, too.

Re: Herpstat only has three outlets!

Hmm... I would actually prefer doing that with mine to get rid of the jumble, but I was nervous about the difference in cords and having all those outlets on what equates to one outlet of the t-stat. That's why I went with the little 3-outlet boxes which allow up to 9 plugs.

However, if anyone uses the outlet strip on the Herpstat successfully please let me know. It would certainly clear things up wire wise.

I actually bought the strip outlet, but the problem was that is was three pronged, and that isn't able to plug into the ungrounded herpstat nd... Maybe i can find an adapter to make it fit...
