Re: Has anyone been to NERD?
I've been a bunch of times and I highly recommend at least a visit. I'd call and let em know you are coming and maybe you will get into the blood room. That's the only place there I haven't been! LOL
I know Kara has amazing animals and I really want to see them. It's a chance to see some one of a kind animals

I didn't get to go this past May...but I went the year before and stayed several days with Kara and Kevin. Robin and I made the trip that year. It was an amazing experience that I will remember and treasure all my life, even if I never get to go back up there.

It was amazing both times - I often reflect on both trips and how gracious both Kara and Kevin were to open their home, their hearts and their passion to us. Now I'm wistful for it again!!!

Re: Has anyone been to NERD?
Yes, I went there. Very cool place. Make sure you schedule in advance.
I was on vacation in the area, so thought I would make a pit-stop on the way to my flight. I called the day before and got no answer. I left a message asking if it would be alright if I stopped by for a tour. I never received a call back, so I called the next morning and finally got someone on the phone. They said that it would be fine for me to show up for a tour. I didn't think to get the guys name who answered. I showed up when I said, and everyone there said they had no idea about my visit. They asked who told me, and I told them I didn't catch the guy’s name that I talked to. Then I was told that they would not allow the tour because it was only two people, and there was a minimum of four per tour. I explained that I called and that no one told me about this. I also explained that I went out of my way to travel there. They finally agreed to a thirty minute tour for double the price for both of us. I didn't mind to pay extra, but I was a little upset about the circumstances.
Again, very cool place, just make sure you call them ahead of time to schedule.

Not to be rude or controversial but it sounds like poor planing... I am sure if you would have called several days in advance then you could have gotten it all squared away.. Just sayin

Re: Has anyone been to NERD?
We were finally able to coordinate a date with Kara and we went on 9/1/08. It was great!!! Amazing stuff!! She even took us out to see her chickens (she rarely does). We spent a while out there talking with the kids running around, the weather was great!! A 1 hour tour turned into 3 hours!! The only thing we didn't get to see was the Blood room, she had just gotten back from a show the day before and everything was thrown in there. She invited us to come back this year in June/July when there's hatching going on!!
It may take a few tried to finally contact her but it's worth it!!!

Re: Has anyone been to NERD?
Oh yeah, LOVE going up to NERD. I was one of the three that went up with Tmartin and Guido We had a great time checking out all the cool herps up there. I got to hold "Jewel" Kevins pride and joy albino water monitor baby that he just hatched out! That was way too cool for me and I'm not even a monitor guy.
Also got to see the Enchi, Woma, Pin, Pastel, Spider combo! I saw him (yeah HIM how much does that freakin rock lol) a few months ago right after he hatched and he just gets better and better looking every time I see him. Also got to see the axanthic KILLERbees and Super Pastel Infernos!
We didn't get to see the blood room since Kara had a bunch of snakes that were breeding and she didn't want to disturb them but she did pull out one of her GINORMOUS female black bloods for us to check out and she got a few babies out so my girlfriend could pick out her first snake She got a real beauty too.

I agree, it was poorly planned. I did not know if we would have enough time to stop by, but as soon as I found out I called. I would have understood if they would have told me on the phone that they could not give us a tour, but they said that it was fine and even gave me directions from where I would be coming from. We drove an hour out of the way to get there. I was very surprised when we got there and they almost did not even let us take the tour.
I am not trying to badmouth them, but this situation did upset me. I was also pretty embarrassed because my buddy that came with me is not into reptiles, and only agreed to go because he knew that I really wanted too.
