you should never try to pop an adult it is very hard and you can end up hurting them , always probe adults ... and probing is the ONLY GAURANTEED way to get a correct sex .
I love it when people tell me, "You should think before you speak!" I'm like, "I did. It's what I think and I really don't give a crap what other people think."

Neither way is guaranteed - if someone isn't careful probing, they can actually push the probe deep on a female (injuring her in the process) and believe that they have a male.

I used to probe, now I only pop all ages, and adults aren't that hard to pop when you have the proper technique down.

if your established at probing it is the safest way to go

    Re: Tips On Popping

You only need to get them popped/probed once, generally speaking.
If you buy from a breeder, they can pop/probe it for you on the spot.
If you're lucky to have a local reptile store, someone there should be able to do it for you free of charge.
Some communities have local herp groups on facebook and what not, try and find someone willing to do it for you.
If you take your snakes to the vet on a regular basis, the vet will be more than happy to do it for you as well (duh).
