My pastel didn't eat today either. She has the blue eyes getting ready to shed though. But, this didn't use to stop her before. She struck at the rat (the rat was getting too close, so I think it was just a warning shot) but didn't hurt it. My kids said, poor Curly... then on the next breath shouted Yipppeee, the rat is saved! Sigh. Feeding day is tough.

One thing I really really love about our spider. He eats anything, anytime, without delay!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

For what it's worth, I feed 34 ball pythons weekly - last week, I only had four refusals, and of those four, they'll probably eat this week.

Size does contribute to fasts. My adults get one large-small a week and I do not experience winter fasts. If you feed larger meals, you're likely to experience more refusals.

    Re: 50percent feeding response

I've gotten used to the occassional refusal. Last week I had 3 refusals out of 16 snakes. 2 were in blue, 1 is a breeding male that refuses every 2-3 weeks then eats again. I can tell all 3 of those are hungry this week but I have 2 others in blue now...lol. But I've had a week or two where I had 50% success rate. I have to say though, switching my 3 picky ones to ASFs has cut down refusals by quite a bit.

Are you prescenting? My ball pythons eat only live right now but my red tailed boas eat frozen. And they all eat on the same day. When thawing my frozen rats all my snakes go nuts. After that they all eat no problem.

Refusals are just part of the game, and fortunately for me I learned to except them, and not loose sleep over it. They will eat when they are good and ready, and if they dont and they loose way to much weight. Well than the force feeding comes into play

    Re: 50percent feeding response

im getting bout a 50/50 atm also ,seems dropping temps for breeding put the females off feed (cept jools but she would eat a bic mac if i offerd it)
i did however get the longest hold out to eat ,she went off 2 months ago
so last night i prekilled and left it in there over night , she ate it sometime this morning im guessing, nice to see her plump mid section again(SEXY!)
she lost only 40grams in 2 months so i wasnt to concernd
