Re: The herp community may be in trouble

Beardedragon can you direct me to your video, I would love to add a comment supporting you.

I am sure some snake owners have no business with snakes. For those who properly care for them, if they chose to feed live, that is their choice, and nothing that would not occur in nature. If his bunny were in a pot of stew, I would eat it. Yes I eat deer and fish. Do I love animals, yes! I also like to eat as well. Never did like my veggies as a kid. Were I not eating animals, I surely would have been hungry. I am against inhuman treatment of animals, but if the snake owner is caring for his animals, does not abuse it's prey, and feed the snake live, well that is nature in action.

No offense to veagans or vegetarians, but this guy can go eat a carrot. Perhaps his energy should go to the inhuman treatment of the masses of farm raised animals not allowed free range and a natural diet. My uncle feeds his family of the land. Garden, hunting and fishing. He never trophies hunts or fishes. He loves nature and supports conservation efforts.

Glad this guy is in England, and not in politics here. He can avoid GMO products, here we cannot unless we grow our own, hunt, and eat animals raised free range.

Trust me from a outsiders point of view the countless feeding video's hurt us more then anything. It is like putting a target on us as reptile owners. I know people got to make money somehow but please no more feeding video's!

Personally I dissagree with that( no offense Brock). To me there is nothing wrong with posting a feeding video, unless you show some cruel way of feeding off the rat. These people just need to get a life, if you hate watching people hunt, do you go and watch hunting videos and then bash them if they are not doing anything wrong? I hope not, I think that there is something wrong with these people, to me its not normal.

    IMO

Re: The herp community may be in trouble

I own snakes & love them. I don't own them because it's cool to watch them eat. I own them because I think they are beautiful and amazing animals.

That being said, I do feel bad for every animal I have to offer as a prey item, which is part of the reason I make sure the rodents get the best care/food and love possible. Why not let them have a great life until the end? The rodents in my care are probably taken care of better than most pets.

I personally cant stand watching videos of people laughing when their reptile strikes/kills another animal. Which is why I chose not to watch those videos. If someone doesnt like what they are seeing, there's always the "back" button.

I think people who can laugh at any animals death is warped in the brain. Yes it has to happen but there's no need to laugh about it.

No offense to anyone.. it's JMHO

If you notice on my feding videos that the whole cam shakes when the snake strikes, no matter how many rats I feed off I never get used to it. I remember in one of my videos I had my eyes closed because I couldnt stand to watch the rat be hit. Am I heartless? No, and like you say the people who laugh at it are messed up.

Re: The herp community may be in trouble

I don't watch feeding videos. I don't like pictures of a snake constricting a rodent either. I'm not going ot say "Don't ever post that! It offends me!" because people have every right to post the pics, and I feed MY snakes rodents too. I just don't "enjoy" feeding a rodent to a snake. It's just food.
I don't like the idea that someone takes pleasure in a animal dying. Laughing and hooting and jumping around because your python hit and constricted a bunny and its' still kicking.. that's sort of sick. Not to mention, it might disturb the snake too. Just my opinion though. *I'm not saying that any videos referred to in this thread have that attitude in them!! There are videos ON youtube of that, which I'm refeerring to, as a bad example of snake owners*
Argueing on youtube does not accomplish anything. It's just going to start a giant flame war, with PETA members on thier side, hugging bunnies and claiming we are all demon-loving horrible animal abusers. Delete the comments that you don't like off your videos. That's what I do on my videos.
