I use cypress mulch for all my snakes. I feel no other substrate allows you to adjust the humidity to your particular preference.

I've got my kids on shaved aspen, which I buy from a feed store or Pets Mart.

I did use kraft paper, but I am now using shredded aspen. The snakes seem to like it better than the paper. However, I think Paper is better for those who use belly heat.

My girl loves to burrow underneath it. She also pushes it up all around her hide and makes a cave. She feels secure with it.

My samller boa is on repti-bark, but will soon be switched to aspen...and my big girl is on aspen with tile underneath...and my ball python is also on aspen.
