thanks for the info. i got the egg crate on top of the perlite. so the way im doing it is good... question, what do u use for substrateless ? (egg crate and water ?)

I use about 1 1/2" of perlite, add water until it just starts to get slushy on the bottom, then place the egg crate on top. You want as much water in the perlite as possible, without it all slushing around or the egg crate sinking down at all. My boxes always have condensation on the insides, and if I see them clear up I add a litle water into the corners of the egg box.
