hey everyone,

need alil help. im trying to get some control on the humidity. are there any breeders that use just perlite ? i got the temp inside the container at 89-90 but the humidity is at 97-99% ! (to high). so i started a new container with no water and the humidity was 78% so i tried wetting just the top of the container inside of the perlite and it went up to 97%. is there are ways to get a control on in. right now im just testing everything but dont want to run into these problems when the eggs are cooking... comment any advice or tips, tks...

Not sure what the problem is, you want your humidity to be as close to 100% (100% even better) as you can without condensation dripping on your eggs.

oh...didnt know that because when i read the different websites, books & magazines. they always show & say temp 89-90F with humidity at 89-90%. never seen or heard to get close to 100% but ill run a test again to monitor how long it last without dripping or drying it out.

I've only done substrateless, but my humidity is always at 99%-100% and all my clutches hatched out fine. I only had one egg get mold, but it was a boob egg and only the boob part molded. With the perlite, just use a lot of substrate and water (the water will drain to the bottom), and keep the humidity as high as you can while keeping the eggs dry. I like uing egg crate with perlite so the only moisture the eggs get is from the humid air. Give me a call or an email if you have any questions along the way.

thanks for the info. i got the egg crate on top of the perlite. so the way im doing it is good... question, what do u use for substrateless ? (egg crate and water ?)

I use about 1 1/2" of perlite, add water until it just starts to get slushy on the bottom, then place the egg crate on top. You want as much water in the perlite as possible, without it all slushing around or the egg crate sinking down at all. My boxes always have condensation on the insides, and if I see them clear up I add a litle water into the corners of the egg box.
