The new baby from Tinley stopped eating
My new baby lavender male stopped eating this week. He ate last week, 1 day old pinkie on 10/13/08 and one on 1/16/08. He shed on the afternoon of the 16th and ate that evening.
When I offered food again on 10/23 he refused and he refused again tonight. (I was told to offer food twice a week and he is really tiny)
So I slit the pinkie, put him and it in a small deli cup, wrapped the cup in a dark colored washcloth, and put him in the snake room. I plan on leaving him overnight and seeing if he eats.
I know its way to early to worry, but I do just because he is so small!! He is half the size of my amel female and they were both hatched in August.
How long before I should start really worrying? Should I be offering food twice a week? Could he just be full? The female amel eats like a horse at twice a week. Opinions, please?
I don't have a weight on him but will get one tomorrow.

Re: The new baby from Tinley stopped eating
If it is a hatchling from this year, I would try every five days. Try not to disturb him between feeding tries and make sure his environment is suitable for his comfort. I had a new BP give me trouble when swithcing him to f/t. After three weeks he ate, and then skipped two more weeks. I started puting the mouse under his heat lamp for about 20 minutes before feeding. He has not missed a meal since.

Yes, he is a hatchling from this year. Both of the new babies are.
Everything is fine for him environment wise.
I did warm the pinkie with warm water before offering it.
Thank you, I'll try to wait longer between offering food if he doesn't eat by tomorrow morning.

He didn't eat last night. I'm going to wait for 5 days and try again.

Have you tried getting live pinks? I had a couple of problem eaters and that was the only way to get them to eat. I just had to put them in a deli cup with nothing else in it and leave them for a little while. After doing that a couple times both of them now take F/T with absolutely no issues (actually they've both become my most consistent feeders ) Good luck with the little guy!

No, I haven't tried live yet, that was my next idea though.
Should I wait the 5 days before offering him a live pinkie? Or should I see if I can find a store near here that has them?
I'll have to do some looking to find one. The only other thing I can do is wait until November 1st and get one at the next reptile swap.

I would wait a few days at least. You don't want to stress him out. Also have you been handling him at all? What are the temperatures in his enclosure? I would avoid any un-necessary handling until you get him eating. When they are that small it's very very stressful on them and that could cause him to go off feed. Just try and find the smallest live pinkies you can, some pet stores will have them occasionally but you want to try and find one thats just a day or two old.
Good luck!

No, I haven't been handling him. His temps and house are good, he has hides, a water dish and plenty of substrate to burrow in.
I look at his house once a day to make sure he has water, but other than feeding attempts, I haven't handled him.
I will leave him alone until early next week and then try again with a live pinkie. Thank you!!!!!!!!!
