How old were they when you put them together? How much did the females weigh in grams?
Try removing the male for a night or two, then put the females into HIS cage. He will have scented it and having to be reintroduced may spur on a little loving.
Ok, I can try that.
i have no idea how much they weighed. i never knew i should have weighed them so i am not sure at all. but the added weight would probably signify either weight gained from food or weight gained from babies within...is that what you are getting at?

Yes, that is a part of it.
Female rats can get pregnant at 6-7 weeks of age, and however the chances are slim, the pregnancy can go badly. Or they may not get pregnant for a few more weeks until they are larger, which would account for you not having baby rats in the usual 3 week span.
Female rats should really be put in when they reach 250-300 grams, or are at least 5 months of age.
If you did weigh them, you would be able to see the sudden weekly trend as they gain weight from their pregnancy. They gain a lot of weight quickly, and it's a sure fire way to know if your girl is preggo if you are unaccustomed to how a pregnant female looks.
