Just to prove that they're not all handicapped...

I hear a lot about how ball pythons (or snakes in general) will often sit there like a bump on a log while bad things happen to them. "Bad things" meaning things like rats nibbling on them, heating units burning them, etc.

I'm pleased to announce that my Adalae does not ride the snakey short bus. Somehow the thermostat didn't kick off after the temps shot up a little too high. I believe it's because I had taken the lower tub off the rack, and thus exposed the probe to the room temperature, which confused the unit. Anyway, long story short, the hot side in her tub shot up to 107 degrees () and when I came back to check on everything and feed the snake who'd been removed from the rack, I noticed the temp spike. Adalae (who is in shed no less) had gotten off her butt and moved herself not only to the other side of the tub, but on top of her cool side hide - thus keeping herself as far away from the heat as possible.

I quickly returned everything to normal and double-checked everything, and we're fine now. But I was glad she thought to move, so I wanted to post and let everyone know that they arent all completely helpless.

(And of course I'll never make that mistake again.)

Well, first off, I'm really glad she's okay and smart enough to have moved herself. Second... "short snakey bus" lol... cute

Thank you. I'm glad she was smart enough, too. I feel like I should have one of those "My snake is smarter than your honor student" bumper stickers.

I'm so glad to hear your python is okay. There seems to be a lot of thermos failing lately. You gotta send me one of those bumper stickers too! LOL

I had a temp spike once after I moved Levi's tank... he went further and escaped to go hide under the couch!

I had something like that happen too. I was in a pinch in a temporary situation with one thermostat and two set ups. The emitter in the side with the probe went out, which then spiked the other side. When I went in the room, he was sort of waving at me, unlike he had ever done before, like a puppy at the window. "Hello! Idiot! Get over here!" He must think I ride the short bus!
