    Re: Emergency, need help

You should really work something out with your roommate/s. Let them know how serious this situation is, and that if anything like this happens again, and it's at all their fault, they take care of vet bills or replacement bills.
With expensive animals, and living animals, it should be in writing.

I really hope he survives, and that something good can come out of this. I'm really sorry this had to happen to you. This is part of the reason I hate alcohol, it turns people into idiots, who couldn't care less about an animals life.

Good luck! I've got all my hopes out for you.

    Re: Emergency, need help

Assuming I now believe his back to be broken, is there really any conceivable way to transport him to the vet, or any possible treatment? I mean, just running my fingers down his side, it goes from normal firm feeling, to a bloated almost post rigamortis limp feeling, with very little transition. He also "passed" what looked like a urate with the consistency of maple syrup with a little blood in it. I want to wait to see if the vet can do anything, but I don't want him to suffer any more.

    Re: Emergency, need help

Oh, wow. I'm totally at a loss for words right now. If it were me, I don't think I'd be able to do anything but sit on the floor and cry until the vet appointment. I'm sure you are doing everything you can. I would make sure the basics are covered - keep him warm, don't move him too much, etc. and other than that, maybe keep some water very close to him. With him getting cooked like that, and being unable to move, I'd worry about dehydration.

I know some vets offer 24/7 emergency phone numbers on their machines or on their website. I think this warrants an emergency call if you have the option available to you.

Please keep us posted. I'm sending all my good thoughts and wishes to your poor little skid (scaley kid).

Edit: as for transport and hope of treatment, I wouldn't rule anything out until a vet can look at him. Don't give up on him -- you may be surprised how well he does. Who knows? To transport him, I would wrap him in towels so he doesn't get jostled around too much, and put him in a box/carrier. Set him on the floor of the car instead of the seats. For some reason it seems to be a smoother ride down there.

I'm really REALLY hoping for good news on this one. :/

Did the roommates offer any insight into what might have happened?

Ddi someone try to handle a snake and get bit and throw the snake? What makes you think his back is broken?

Im sorry to hear of your troubles and hope that everything turns out for the best.

Hey Ben, I'm so sorry that happened and I wish I had some advice for you, but regretably, I don't. I wish you and your bp the best of luck and be sure to let us know how it goes at the vet. I'm pulling for you both.

    Re: Emergency, need help

I was assured that no one went into my room... that they knew of... key words there.

The reason I believe his back to be broken is just that he appears paralyzed from a certain distinct point in his body, down the rest of the way. Almost as if, two thirds of him is already dead. I had fed him right before I left town, so maybe just the extreme heat caused a gaseous eruption in his stomach as the prey broke down, which would have the effects of causing infection and bloating in the general vicinity of the rupture as he went septic, and swelling putting pressure on the spinal nerve causing him to be paralyzed from said point down. Problem is, neither of these options really provide any light at the end of the tunnel.

I am so sorry to hear about this bro. I can not fathom how you feel right now. All I know to say is I am so sorry and I am pulling for you guys. Please keep us updated.

I would get a locking door knob or better room mates. If there is anything that we can do let us know. I don't know how we could help but if you need it I am sure many will do what they can.

Oh my goodness. That sounds horrible. I really do hope he's okay. Poor thing didn't deserve any of this... I really do hope he'll be okay, he's in my thoughts.
