Opinions on morph males to get with about $1,000-$1200

for many combos SPIDER , BUTTER , and PINSTRIPE.

Thinking of Mojo and BP instead of the Butter/Lesser to get 4 snakes since the mojo and bp will be about $600 which is about the going rate for a single lesser. I'll buy a lesser male later on or trade for one with morph hatchlings and breed it to mojo holdback females for clean lucys.

I would get yourself a spider male, pastel female, and a lesser female. You could create some pretty cool crosses.

Thats very true kevin. Because you can breed in about 2-3 with those females.. but in that time there are allot of new morphs so..

my opinion is. Buy what you like and great what you like. Do breed for the money

I personally would start with as many female morphs as you can get... Maybe a Pastel, Spider, Mojave, and Cinny... Get them all nice and fat and then when the first 09 babies start popping up, pick up a good male like a Lemon Blast, Pewter, Pastave, etc... In 2010 you will be producing some very sweet combos with quite a few different flavors for trading or selling.
Getting these co-dom males might seem the quickest way to start producing morphs, but single co-dom males are losing value everyday and wont be as easy to trade-up for combos. Also getting females later on when you are ready to breed doesnt seem like the moust sound plan.
If I had to start all over I would only buy morph females... Bees, Pewters, Super Pastels, and anything I could get my hands on. In a couple years you will be much further ahead then you would be if you do it the other way around.

I'm going with what I want to do because of advice from professional breeders who do this for a living and it meshes with the goal I have of eventually doing this as a part or full time job. Not saying anyone's way is wrong, I just want to get started asap and raising morph females for 3 years isn't asap. I can't buy any more snakes anyway till I get a house with the room which is in February. I don't want to spend more than $300 for each male which is about right for the ones I want(spider/bp/mojo/maybe pin).

Now, I also want this to be self sustaining after the initial investment so I need to get producing as soon as possible. No way is a baby female I buy in the spring going to be ready to go in 2010, it just isn't happening and I don't have the money to be dropping for ready to go morph females. If I buy hatchling females in spring 2009 I won't be ready to breed until 2012 and I won't have morph babies till 2013... Ouch... However if I get my males in the spring and buy some ready to go females when they get up to size(maybe even by the 2009 season if I get them early enough in the year) I can start right away.

I've done the math and I can start making money back with the male/normal female method to invest in more morphs much sooner this way. Plus I'll be making my own female morphs for free and only be 1 year back from having breeder morph females while making money 3 years sooner to get back my initial investment and fund going forward.

Sounds good on paper but I hate to be the one to burst your bubble - So I won't - But you'll see...If you want to do this as a business - full time or part time - You'll need a whole lot more capital than $1200 to play the game...Not trying to bring you down but you need to be realistic...

I won't get in to the males vs. females debate, but ... the advice that I can give is this ...

If you're planning on starting a business either full or part time, please do yourself a favor and put as much into the "business" side as the "animal" side. Take a class (or two or three or four), read books, talk to small business owners ... sales, marketing, advertising, finance, accounting, etc ... are all actually more important than the "animal part" ... and most important ... write up a business plan ... you won't regret it. The animal part is the EASY and fun part ... the rest is real work and it sucks sometimes ... 9 out of 10 business fail in their first three years because the people that started the business had no idea how to run a business. Doesn't matter if you produce a million dollars worth of snakes, if you can't run a business, you've lost before you even started.
