Re: what should i do if i lose power with ike?

I'm in Utah and had a good 20-hour power loss during the winter about 4 years ago. My house dropped to about 63 and I was stumped. Anyway, I was worried about my Sulcata Tortoise (I had no snakes at the time). I was able to put him in a small dog crate and throw him under the covers with me. The heat from my body was more than enough to keep him warm.

A crate wouldn't work with the snake, but maybe an appropriately-sized Critter Keeper? It won't help much during the day, unless your planning on sitting on the couch with a blanket and reading all day. But it'll get you through the night, which is always the scariest and coldest.

This was all before I was married, of course. It'd definitely take some squirming and pleading today

Good luck with the hurricane. I hope you and yours stay safe and everything works out!

i purchased a critter cage and some heat packs today. I do however have a snake that is in shed as we speak. he is in the blue and very unhappy. should i just leave him in his tank the whole time?

I always keep a bunch of hand warmers, just in case.

same here, dude. You can get the smaller 10 hour packs and bigger ones up to 60 hours I think. Put the heat pack(s) in a sock since they can get pretty hot. You can then put them right in with the snake to give it some good warmth. I'm in Mass and it gets really cold so I like to be prepared. You can order them online or pick em up at Walmart.
