The one I have trouble is axanthics. I guess its Axe-an-thic, but I'm not sure. I read it and in my head I think I pronounce it at-than-tict, or at lantix or some other totally messed up thing...lol

And this is why I started this thread. I thought axanthic was axe-an-thic.
O and the words don't just need to pertain to BP's. Any herp related words should be asked.

Cause you know, Albino is the hardest one!
Other than snake words though.. I still say herbs like it looks instead of (e-rbs). People make fun of me so much.. :[

Re: Pronunciation of herp related words...
i good friend of mine is a herpetologist and a college professor and he says that everyone says everything different with the nomenclature because it doesn't follow anything in particular. you have latin, greek, and nonsense all mixed together. for example, take a coastal carpet python... Morelia spilota mcdowelli. that's greek, latin, and some guy's basterdized name!
the point is, you can brush up on latin and greek pronunciation, but in the end nobody cares if you say it wrong.
one that that i always said wrong... Elaphe (as in rat snakes). its EE-laugh-EE...

long time keeper and breeder of carpet pythons and other snakes...
