Morph?
Ok. I know I need to post a pic, but I just got her yesterday & the suspense is killing me. I adopted a 'Normal' 4 year old BP from someone that is moving to No Pets Allowed apartment building. This snake is a sweetie. & she needs some TLC because she was sick with gastroenteritis (she did not have belly heat. Don't know if that's the issue), so she missed a few meals.
Anyway, the girl told me that a breeder had told her it was some type of morph, but wasn't sure.
She has a very reduced pattern (hardly any alien heads at all. Maybe 2). She has no yellow at all (no tan, but cream colors instead). Her head is pretty faded, & her eyes are green, not brown. She also has quite a bit of blushing on the sides, & a clean belly. She looks like an axanthic, but I'm not sure since I've never seen one of those in person. The light eyes is what made me sure she's not just a 'normal'.
Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track here? I don't care even if she is a normal, she's awesome, but it'd be cool to know.
I'll post a pic when I get home.
Thanks!

Re: Morph?
Without a picture it is hard to tell, but im guessing normal anyways. The person who you got her from would have known the morphs name because she would have paid extra for it unless it is a het.

Re: Morph?
See I thought that the light eyes was a give away that it is a morph. But I guess I might be wrong about that. She got her from PetSmart when she was a baby. I've heard of Pastel, Axanthics, Yellow Bellies, etc. ending up at PetSmart, & such, so I didn't think anything about that part.
But anyway, I do have to post a pic because she is the prettiest normal snake I've ever seen. & I paid a great price for her, normal or not.
Thanks!

If she is from petsmart then there is very little chance she is a morph. Less than .00001 precent that she is a morph( maybe a het but impossible to know and still unlikly) The BPs that arrive at big chain petstores go through many hands before they are sent there. If in africa they see anything odd or morphish they take it out and so on through the people it is passed down through.
I do not think ive ever heard of a morph coming from Petsmart, just alot of people thinking their normals are something else. Granted, normals come in many beautiful different color shades and patterns and are wonderful themselves so it can be easy to think that they are something different.
Hope this helps-Matt

Re: Morph?
yeah if it came from a comercalized pet store it is probably just a good looking normal. I paid $300-$400 for my Yellowbellies and $275 for my pastel.
0.1 Spider Het Orange Ghost
1.1 Yellow Belly Ball Python
1.0 Pastel Ball Python
1.1 100% Het Pied Ball Python
1.1 100% Het Orange Ghost Ball Python
0.7 Normal Ball Python

Re: Morph?
I know what you are saying. I have a Spider, 2 Pastels, a Pinstripe, a Mojave, a Yellow Belly pair, and 2 normals, and even the normals were more expensive than this girl. But the eyes just threw me way off (& the coloring/pattern/belly are really different). All the normals I've seen have the black eyes & I read in Kevin McCurley's book that light eyes are a good indication that the snake is not just a 'normal'.
& I actually know someone that worked at Petsmart that found a Pastel (an orangey one) in a delivery of normals (she bought it of course & didn't tell anyone...lol). I've heard (only heard) of Axanthics, & YB found in shipments.
I really just have to post a pic though. I might just be 'in love' because she is such a sweetheart of a snake. All of mine are nice snakes, but this one is puppy dog friendly.
Thanks!

Re: Morph?
Normals can have green/silver eyes too. Petsmart and petco all sell captive hatched animals. Meaning, they catch wild gravid females, hatch them at the farms in africa or here in the states, and sell the offspring.
They go through many MANY hands, and both the people in Africa and here in the US know a special animal when they see it. If it was a high gold animal, it is not a pastel.
Also, how did the BREEDER tell her it was a morph if she bought it from Petsmart? That's very contradicting. Private breeders do not sell to petsmart.
I think without a pic, it's impossible to say what it is. My guess it's a normal.

Re: Morph?
Thanks for posting that game...lol. Mine actually looks like 4 & 5. & if Normals can have light eyes too, then I guess that's what she is. But I'll post a pic later because I still think she's the prettiest normal ever
Thanks everyone!

Re: Morph?
Oh & yeah, she didn't explain who the breeder was. I guess it could just have been someone that's bred a few BP & thinks their experts. But, again, I really wanted her no matter what, so I'm happy.
