    Hovabator question

    Hi everyone,

My female bearded dragon is expecting her first cluch of eggs any day now. So I have started calibrating the hovabator. I noticed the ambient air temp is higher that the temp in the vermiculite (Ambient temp is 88-89 degrees and the vermiculite is hoding at a steady 84-85 degrees right now.
Is it normal for the ambient air temp to be higher than the vermiculite and is it ok or should I bring it down a few notches?

    Thanks Sabrina

    Re: Hovabator question

I've never used a hovabator, but I would think that if the ambiant temperature stays at 88-89 for long enough, the vermiculite should eventually match it exactly. Did you test your thermometers?
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

One is a digital and the other is a "glass" thermometer that came with the hovabator. we are just calibrating now because I know that it can take a few hours or more to proper calibrate everything. The one thats reading higher is the glass one and it laying on top of the vermiculite and the digital probe is "stuck" just under the vermiculite.

Sounds good. If they are still reading different after you're running for a while try switching the two positions and see what they say. That will give you an idea of where you're at.

    Re: Hovabator question

The glass one that came with it is not good, at least the one I got with one(years ago) was a joke. I would incubate them at 81-83 degrees. You wanna stay towards the cooler side because they have no way of cooling down if the incubator gets to hot and 89 is real hot for beardie eggs.

Yeah Ive noticed that the thermometer that come with it is not good at all. I adjusted the temps again last night and when I checked it this morning the digital thermometer says 83.5 degrees (thats the one in the vermiculite) but the glass one that came with it still says 90.
So Im thinking the glass one is wrong?
