I Just Got A Small Zoo Med Uth. I Plugged It In And Had Thermometer On It Monitoring. It Went Up To 115deg. I Unplugged It As Fast As I Could To Prevent Burning. Whats A Good Product Under $20 That I Could Use To Act As A Temperature Regulator? I Want To Keep It At 90-92deg?

I can't help you with the first part but you cannot put the heat pad in the actual tank, which I think is what you're referring to here. It should go outside of the tank and stuck on (zoo meds stick on) or taped on with proper tape.

OKAY it just looked like you were going to put it in the tank based off of what you said. Most good thermostats are going to run over $20, they are a good investment in the long run. I had some zoomeds - I taped layers of newspaper over them on the inside of the tank and it kept the temps down a little, it wasn't the best but it was a quick fix until I got a thermostat and switched UTHs

you should be willing to spend MUCH more on the enclosure than on the animal itself.

you absolutely NEED a thermostat if you have temperature fluctuations in the area you keep the snake in. Dimmer switches can be temporary fixes in situations where you need something quick. But let me repeat myself, dimmer switches can lead to dramatic temperature fluctuations in an unstable environment.

Your best bet is to invest the 90.00 or so and get a johnson controlls, a ranco or a herpstat or helix. Rich at Reptile Basics does wonderful things and will prewire everything and has the greatest customer service ever. (my Johnsons had a problem and he fixed it for me free of charge, all i had to do was pay to ship it to him).

Hi there! A dimmer switch is the minimum control needed before you plug in your UTH, and a lamp dimmer from lowes is about $9. You will find after using the dimmer for a few weeks, that you don't enjoy adjusting the switch constantly, due to room temperature flux. A ranco off ebay is $50 (not-wired) and about 70 wired. Wired just means it is ready to plug a UTH into and plug into the wall, unwired means you need to wire it to an extension cord (there are instructions online available if you are up to the challenge)

As for putting something IN your tank between the UTH and your bp - newspaper or any other substrate acceptable is all that is needed, even if you put a thick layer of substrate in to help reduce the heat on your bp's belly - he will burrow beneath it to the hot spot.

Yep, sorry to say. The ZooMed thermostat is $21 plus shipping on ReptileSupply.com and that's a sale.

But you NEED something to regulate the heat ASAP. Dimmers and rheostats will help, but rarely get the temps down very much and need constant tweaking and monitoring.

Cool Im going to get one of these. My BP should be ok untill I get one right? My tank air temp is 89to82 and the bottom of the tank reads 80.
