Well when I reworded that post, I was generally referring to boas and pythons. ;]
I know there are some snakes out there that eat insects (I was actually reading on it a little bit ago through Wikipedia).
But my explanation of how their design was not meant to capture small insects but to swallow and grab things of larger quantity.

Anywho. Since I feel like it I'm going to tell you how it is physically impossible for any snake to eat insects. Snakes do not have the reflex of grab, snap, and swallow. They're mouths are also not designed to grab small amounts of food. When the 'feeding reflex' kicks in they BITE-GRAB-WRAP-SQUEEZE-SWALLOW.
Their instincts virtually forbid them from skipping the wrapping and squeezing.
So basically those Petco employees are pretty uneducated. I'm not too sure so don't quote me on this, but I THINK that the digestive system would have an issue with insects as well?
All those insects will do is attempt to eat the snake. Inhumane is what it is.
Welllll......
First, there are quite a few snake species that do feed on insects Smooth Green Snakes, Rough Green snakes, Ground Snakes, Shovelnose snakes, Racers (Yes, they feed on locusts) etc.
For the small amounts of food comparative to the animal; it depends on the species. Brown Snakes (Storeria genus) feed on very small invertebrates. Some that are barely half the size of their heads. It all depends on what the species is designed for, and how they evolved.
As for the instincts on skipping the wrapping, and constriction...not entirely. I had quite a few giants, including a couple AfRocks, that would gently take F/T Rabbits straight from the tongs, and start to swallow. Nothing else to it. If the animal is dead, and they know so, then why waste the energy on a deceased meal? Don't forget, they do feed on carrion in the wild

this is very true, many snakes like garters feed on insects...
BUT, somtimes in captivity if they are willing you can get them to feed on small mice or mice parts.

Anyone else find it ironic that while everyone was criticizeing Blue guy, they were talking about how much they miss Jas... yet BG was jas? Under a different name it didnt seem like you liked him that much...

It was obvious that blueguy was jas....
I don't think that his 'concealed identity' was lost on most of the posters who knew jas

Yeah, I had the idea I thought Pat would have given it away a long time ago.
