I was at my desk workin, and a co-worker comes up to me, says "you like b-bugs, don't you?" I says, yeah, they're pretty cool. She tells me to go into the ladies b/r and tell her that's not what she thinks it is.....so I go in there, and sure enough, there's a GIANT roach.....damn near 3 inches long!! Roaches in Philly and NY are BIG. Not afraid of em, just think they're disgusting. So I grab a wad of TP, and get on a chair,(he was by the ceiliing, and I'm short) ready to smash him, when he jumps off the wall, spreads his wings and FLIES......landing on my leg ...I almost fell off the chair.

That seriously made me sick to my stomach. I love the widows and bark scorpions we have around here in AZ - not scared of them at all and will pick them up with no hesitation if I have a piece of paper handy - but if I see even a tiny wingless roach I'll start to tear up. Ugh, I cried a couple nights ago because I walked right past a big one with wings, I'm pathetic!

Roaches don't bother me. I don't go around kissing them, but I'd rather pick them up and put 'em outside than kill them. I've had one with wings fly into my hair once. Took me a while to get him untangled. I don't like it when they fly.

UHG, I cannot stand roaches. Every one of them either chases me or dive bombs me as yours did.

Hand me a nine foot Burm, no problem. Let me clean the cage of an out-for-blood Emerald Tree Boa, I won't bat an eye. But get me near a roach and I turn into a screaming, blubbering ninny.

maybe it is a local roach, not a german cockroach? here, there are two types. The big rare ones that live by the lake, and fly.. and the nonnative german cockroaches that are generally associated with the bad areas of town. The "plague" roaches like this, I am pretty sure, do not fly.. sounds like yours was the local, native kind; not as bad

We get real monsters like that down in richmond where I go to school. 2-3 inches long... yuck.

ICK!!! That reminds me of the time when I was at a friend's house for a party, and I went to use the restroom. As I was washing my hands, I happened to look up and atop the medicine cabinet was what I thought to be a fake roach. It HAD to be fake - it was standing completely still, orangey-brown, and nearly 4" long. This is IOWA, not Florida or NYC. Roaches don't get that big here.

'Wow, Mere has COOL plastic bugs!' I thought, as I reached up to pick up the "fake" cockroach. When my hand was about six inches away, it.... well, it scurried away... scritch scritch sctirch went its dirty little feet. I didn't scream, but the flight response kicked in and I RAN out of that bathroom!


And i used to like bugs... I had a whole collection when I was a little kid, I was th ekid who got nests of Mantises for her birthday... I was the Bug Kid. And that roach still scared to poo outta me!
