I am terribly embarrassed...but does anyone know how to treat the early stages of impaction? She seems to have something caught in her lower digestive tract. I've given a warm bath today and a belly rub hoping she poops tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated....

Im assuming that your BF is kanarybird. IF so it seems hes come to the conclusion its a impaction,

With that, a impaction can build up, wether of too large prey items, or a loose substrate (like sand), expecially in a baby, and it can collect and become a ball, or lump. This can cause a irritation in the digestive track, and as the digestive track is right near the spine, the impaction can irritate the spine and cause parylasis in the parts following the impaction, or partial paralysis. To treat this, i have given a few suggestions in a Pm to him, but a vets your best option.

UVB dificiency is also associated with the same problem, with this if its early it can be fixed with the right UVB light, In any case she needs the right UVB or this will happen even if it has not already. What happens is beardies use the UVB to synthesise vitamin D3 in there body and this, along with calcium keeps there bones hard and body running. IF the dragon does not get this UVB, or the correct suplements, his bones may be soft, and can break easy, but also usually his back leg or legs may slowly stop working as well, and soften and over time paralysis can grow. This is called Medabolic bone disease. Id get a Repti-sun 10.0 tube, (not compact), you can get the fixture at home depot, petco/petsmart (check fish hoods/recepticals section, these are cheaper then reptile versions but work just as good) or other stores like that for the correct length fixture. Then with the bulb, use this and it will help a ton. The repti-sun 5.0 is ok, and all others are probably too strong for the size tank you seem to have, so this is the best bet, strongest and best for the animal. A vet can also help treat this.

Only a vet is qualified to tell wether its impaction or MBD, and we cant over the internet, but to give baths can help with a possible impaction and has little ill effects, and a good UVB is a must in any situation, so to get this is needed regardless.

I think your a few symptoms behind scheduling that Vet appointment.

The tough part in keeping reptiles is being able to identify illness when the signs are subtle. Often when they look really bad it is very late in the game.

I would call the Vet first thing in the morning. Tell them it is an emergency and get your Beardie down there.

I just read a few more things your BF had written, and it says some of the symptoms that your BF has noticed, Definitally a vet is the direction you need to take

Im sorry theres all the trouble, but really a vets the best and only thing you can do as it seems that husbandry is being fixed.

Wow, yea, still a few different threads you two have this spread over. It makes it confusing as to what is going on with the situation.

I have to advise that perhaps to keep all relevent info and comments to the particular situation, readers and posters will have a better time answering if you keep it all in one thread instead of creating new ones for each little question.

Please keep your questions about your new beardie in this thread - as creating multiple posts only confuses the readership and results in less responses to your multiple questions.

It's understandable that you are confused and worried about your new pet, and I agree with others that it's time for you to get him/her into a vet sooner rather than later. Since none of us have veterinary degrees and can't put our hands on your animal, if her symptoms are concerning enough to start multiple threads, a professional is your best course of action at this point.

Thanks people. We'll be more concientious of our posts from now on...

Turns out she woke up this morning with both eyes open and alert. I gave her a warm bath (which resulted in some patcheds of dry skin coming off) and massaged her tummy and, after returning her to her enclosure she scurried around and climbed up her vines and everything.

Her lethargy is much better (though she still seems a little low on energy) and she is using her back legs much more. Only thing is that she hasn't pooped in 3-4 days....

So, could be minor impaction? Could just be constipation?

I fed her some squash baby food 20 minutes ago and she enjoyed it...but no solids til she poops.

Any more input would be much appreciated!

If you even think that it's impaction, you need to get her to a vet so they can do a hands on evaluation. If you even think it's MBD, you need to get her to a vet so they can do a hands on evaluation.

I was hoping the next post would be you coming back from the Vet's office, but seeing it's not, I don't know what else your really looking for in answers.

All we can do is speculate from what little descriptions you give and say take her to a Vet ASAP.
