BCI Feeding Question
I have three BCI's, their ages are 1 yr, 1.5 yrs, and 2.5 yrs. I posted a question regarding a proper feeding schedule on a different forum. I told them that I feed all of my boas one appropriate sized rodent once a week, and they were shocked and told me that they were not surprised that I haven't killed my boas. They told me that if it were BCC's then I would have definitely killed them with this feeding schedule. They then told me that it is correct to feed a boa that is younger than one year old an appropriate sized rodent once a week, but once they reach one year, you should switch to one every two weeks. So that is what I have been doing.
I was reading some post on this forum and read that it was appropriate to keep then on a once a week feeding schedule until they reach two years of age.
Which is correct? Thanks to all that reply...

Re: BCI Feeding Question
I also feed most of the young animals once every 2 weeks, they do realy great with it. When a boa is fed less often the animal is more in movement, more movement is more muscles, more muscles is healthier and gives bigger breeding records.
Young boas can be fed every week, nothing wrong with it, even when you feed adults every week they definatly not going to die from it. My advice to feed boas is just feed them every week or 2 weeks when they are young, when feeding every week you need to skip feeding once in a while (for there movement.), the snake does not depend on that specific prey.. Even in the wild there isn't a monkey around witch gives your boa a rat every week or every 2 weeks. I have expirienced that my boa witch is fed every 2 weeks since birth is way stronger and even so big as my boas fed every week. But my boas witch where fedded every week are less stronger and have more fat, and beleive it or not... Both animals have the same body mass...
Everyone chooses for a schedual witch works the best for them, i choosed mine as above, somebody else does it otherwise and has also healthy pets as boas. You just have to trie and expirience yourself... And remember eatch boa is different !!
PS (edit
If you check my animals on my site, the arabesque female (my largest yearling.) is fed every 2 weeks, my intergrade are fed every week.. The lipstick line animals are to thin, but they aren't that long in my collection yet. So do not think i underfeed, they do really great

Kevin

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. After reading this post, I am going to be switching all of my boas to an every two week schedule from here on out. I feel that it is important for them to be less fatty, so that they are healthier. Thanks again.

Re: BCI Feeding Question
No thanks, my appologize for the bad englisch..
The most important thing for a snake to do is to switch prey to muscle, they can only do this when they have the time too. Digesting a prey takes 5 days, in 2 days a boa cannot reduce fat to muscles, it needs more days too do.. Vincent Russo also writes about it in his book, and for me this is proven on my own snakes.. its also pretty logic when thinking about it..

Kevin
